Thinking of buying a 2hp inflatable to enable me & mate to kite from new places. Eg up at Lake Tuggerah le weekend there was a bit of offshore in the lake from The Entrance side - but would've been perfect if we'd had a dingy.

We're both on the cusp of upwind kite action - so some downwind fun with a dingy is very appealing.

Any tips - views etc etc???

Yours gratefully,
Cap'n Chaos

One suggestion - Rethink your horse power. If you're kiting in any sort of breeze, 2hp won't be enough to move two blokes and their gear against the wind.

Thanks Ben - not knowing too much about horsepower and dingies - what do you recommend as a minimum? Looking for a physically small boat that can fold up or deflate to fit in the "bak o' the van". I'm assuming that if we get on to it - one guy kite on a big downwinder, one follows, then at the other end kite LE deflated....???

I think I read somewhere that Tuggerah Lake is 2% tidal so no, not tidal. I've got a 12 foot aluminium runabout with a 9.9 HP engine and I've been buzzing round the lake when the wind was up pehaps 15 - 20 knots and the waves get surprisingly big in the middle!!!
Going back up wind in the boat I'd hug the shoreline abit - Canton Beach, Picnic Point and Chittaway Bay (not Chittaway Point) are all good spots on Tuggerah Lake and cover just about all wind directions.
