Anyone kited Borneo? ie. Specifically Sabah(Western Malaysia - not the peninsula)

I'm heading off next week for a little R & R and thinking the wind is looking so slight there at this time of year I don't think it's even worth lugging the kite (heaven forbid)(OMG 2 weeks kiteless, can I cope?)

Any feedback appreciated. I can't find any wind information on this island, but most of Asia seems very light at this time of year.

Went to Kota kinabalu in Dec 05. Only 1 kiter seen in 2 weeks. The wind doesn't really get up that much there. Dare I say..... leave the gear behind.

hey i've been to sabah/kota kinabalu many times and i am quite familiar with the area. I just thought id mention that Sabah is espeacially known for being 'NOT windy'. As I can recall the name Sabah means the land below the wind. This makes it the ideal tourist resort holiday spot but not necessarily the ideal spot for kitesurfers. I dont ever remember it being windy but there may have been islands further out from kota kinabalu that may have had more wind.

I lived in Sarawak for a while and there was basically nil wind there this time of year. As for KK - the beaches in the town arn't very clean unless you head to one of the islands to kite if there is wind.
