i only started kiting around Xmas last year so i was a bit disappointed to find out that the winds werent all year round in feburary.

But i have noticed the graphs have shown a few windy days recently and was wondering if anyone has gone out recently because its been cold , it gets dark early and the winds are supposedly not that strong in winter i've just been working more and havent had a good chance to check out the beaches. is it worth knocking off early this time of year if the winds are good or should i hold out to october when the winds return or so ive been told which i think is what most people are

I would wait till summer. Winter winds while being strong are usually from dodgey directions and not that predictable. There aren't many places with all year round winds infact non I can think of. But WA has some of the most predictable winds in summer. If your dissapointed with WA then you will be dissapointed everywhere.

I would suggest joining the gym, get strong & fit for next season !!

don't wast your time knocking of early to sit on the beach in the cold !!
aslo if you have a tree in your back yard set up a bar & old lines to it and get a second hand trampoline to practice your kick ass moves.

the main source of my disappointment was the fact that i was oblivious to the states weather conditions. i just found out my new hobbie isnt an all year round activity so i was a little dissapointed with reality

In summer, where i live & kite, we just leave all our kites pumped up & stacked up against each other nice and neatly in a rack on the beach. So when you want to kite you just turn up and unlock your 'ready to go' kite and away you go. We always have Paulio's ute full of esky's filled with cold beer waiting for the end of each session. ($2 per beer) In summer the wind blows NE 20knots from 10am until 1am. Usually we just sleep under our kites on the beach (its much cooler sleeping on the beach in summer) Sometimes i use my kite as a net to catch fish & then we cook them on the camp fire. My favourite is to set my kite up between 2 trees Hammock style.
WARNING - Never ever under any circumstance put your kite/hammock near the camp fire, It makes it really hard to catch fish with a heap of burnt holes in your kite.

in summer where i live, we leave our kites pumped up in Gruiezis garage. He lives right on the spot we all go. So when we go kiting we just call in his garage and grab our ready pumped kite for another session.
I always bring beer, i'm sponsered by guinness after all, so we all have a quiet guinness after an amazing session. i am also sponsered by fat bastards pie company, so we eat our fill of delicious healthy pies too.
Life is so good in WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Damn you poor reli with your guiness & pies. I will have to send you by post one of my 'special' cheese & bacon pies. Its made from the finest pastries, with 100% pure beef, grain feed for a minimum 100days. It has large strips of cooked bacon and both crispy & melted cheese mmmmmmmmm did i mention the strips of bacon mmmmmmm.

been a while since i've visited the site.
have been feeling sorry for myself as i curse the weather and lack of wind.
thought I'd read everyones posts about all the wind they've been getting
there is great comfort knowing i'm not the only one scaring the wind away every time
i grab my kite.

this is my first winter as a kiter, and the first winter in ten years the raging morning winds i've been expecting never bothered to show.
i really hate winter now.
