"We offer unlimited free lessons to those who want to purchase a kite and board package, our results have proven to us that this method of learning is the most efficient way to learn. By having your own kite while you learn ,you will always be familiar with the kite , its characteristics, wind range, safety system, tuning , and maintenance. This is key to your confidence and progression . Along with that there is no need to book a kite surfing lesson weeks in advance when there is no guarantee that the conditions will even be suitable to have a lesson, simply call on the morning of the day an give us your intention of participating , remember all this is free. "

Looking at getting into kitesurfing. I think it looks like pretty good fun. But with the fact that some companies offer free lessons does that mean its really difficult to use the gear they sell? The other shops I have looked at dont offer free lessons so their gear must be super easy to use right?

I dont want to be still getting dragged through the water in 3 years time and struggling....

Any suggestions please

No it doesn't.
My take is its a sweetener to encourage new kite purchases.

usually means they like you enough to make sure you dont get it wrong and break some bones.
free lessons is , go with it (i thought the deal with all the shops was lessons gave a discount on future purchases or buy a kite first and get free lessons, either way all the new kites are pretty safe if you know how to use them)

Yeah new kites are awesome, especially the new F1 bandit, its a c kite, and a delta wing, it just rolls over and relaunches like that *snaps fingers*

If you choose the "unlimited" lessons method, make sure you do the first few lessons on the school's kites. The initial learning stages will involve lots of hard crashes which can devalue your new kite quickly.

Also make sure that you have constant instruction from a qualified instructor and not just pointers and supervision.

The IKO has a basic curriculum and any qualified instructor who follows a lesson plan based around this curriculum will have you kiting in no time. If you buy your gear before you learn you may find that you have bought the wrong kit. Wait until you have some lessons under your belt and then choose. There's heaps of advice out there- some good and some motivated by profit.

Good luck and be prepared to be obsessed!!!
