I WAS KITING THE OTHER DAY BEFOR A THUNDER STORM AND HAD A STRANGE FEELING IN MY FOOT LIKE A SHOCK AS I WALKED BACK UP THE BEACH. THIS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES, ONE WAS A GOOD JOLT . I FIGURED IT WAS STATIC ELECTRICITY BUT I WAS THE ONLY ONE GETING THE SHOCKS

Possibly kiting before a storm might be dangerous.

Keep doing it and you could become famous, Just make sure you get it on video!

duno if you would be famous for a good thing cus its already been done

a charge builds on your kite when its flying, this comes from friction with the air. air surrounding lightning storms is heavily charged* and you collect lots of electrons on the canopy. if one or more of your lines are wet or conducting in some way every time you break your connection with the ground you will be charged up. touching the water or ground once charged up will give you a jolt like touching a van der graph.

now lets never see this topic again

i can get you some aicraft "static wicks" they are basically bonded to the aircraft, and remove the static electricty picked up by the airframe racing thru the air, they also evedentley sometimes make a good exit point for lightining strikes
