Looking for somewhere close to Perth to take my 3m Samuarai for Spring Blow Out! especially while the temp is still a bit cool to get in the water.

Ive noticed some salt lakes towards Safety Bay, can anyone tell me is it possible there, or is it too gusty?!

Any help will be appreciated, or reccomendations.

Thanks

I tried kite-landboarding down there once and never again. It was reasonably early in the day, just as the doctor was kicking in. I had a 13m LEI up and the wind coming over the highway and vegetation there was quite gusty, it kept wanting to fall out of the sky. If you got it on a day that the wind was coming through there consistently (perhaps a NW would be better than the S) it might be a different story, but after that session I packed up, went down onto the water and didn't bother stop the car there on the way through ever again.

The ground there is actually quite patchy, not really what you'd want for kitelandboarding. When I did manage to get going I'd be poking along and find a patch of really soft dirt to all of a sudden bog down in. Then the wind would drop suddenly, Murphy showing his hand. If you could keep to the track they race around would be right, but I doubt you'd get good wind if it was coming from that direction.

Self launching and landing was a bit of a mission too, might want to take someone to help out. LEI wasn't the best thing to be flying and I did a bit of damage to it scraping it along the ground. Nothing serious though, no actual holes in it.

It's possible I'm just a kook and you could actually have a good bit of fun, but I'm not (as much of) a kook on the water, and comparing the two the water was fun, the land was not.

I'll be back in Perth late November with my mountainboard and kites anyway, I'll still be keen for some more attempts to try and actually enjoy it, but might also just be heading for the water again. Let us know how it goes and I'll see what's happening.

www.landsailingwa.com/ is the land yatch club there.

Contact them for details... the place is locked up usually and you need to really go down to where the main race area is to get a decent area.

Pretty solid ground there but solid with a layer of loose grit on it.
Not the best for landboarding but better than any beach in that part of WA

There rules about using the place when its wet as well...

Thanks for all the info

I dropped a line in the extremekites forum and hope to hear back.
Ta Ian, I guess there just isnt any nice wide hard sand beaches on the west coast, appreciate your help.

Baggsy,, Samurai is a great kite, 3m was perfect for me in N.Z, not sure over here,, maybe too big for the doctor but nice in pre season light wind, hope, i need to convert it still to a bar, have been using handles in the past.

Nice one guys thanks
