What is the best way to self land a bow kite? I usaully use a stick or object but there was none around so today I tried a new method.

I got in on the window & let the chicken loop out and it just sat there on the safty mostly depowered but still wanting to take off. Then it went straight down wind and started spinning and looping, so I released the safety, which was stuiped. It ended up wrapped around fence a few hundred meters away.

Any ideas, or video of self landing one?

use the search function....there's plenty of info

When all else fails attach your safety leash to the sliding ring on one line and activate your safety release.

Are you for real!!! So you triggered the safety and the kite flew away into a fence...That's how I read it.

Didn't you have your safety attached to you? Your instructor should have showed you how to activate your safety and flag the kite.

Or you can grab the highest front line like in this clip, He makes it look easy I know.

Easy way is to fly it quickly (as fast as you can)it the edge of the window, when near stalling point(the edge of the window), sheet the bar out further so it fly's even further past the edge of the window, at the same time take a couple steps forward and grab the top center line and pull and couple handful's in...DO NOT LET GO....the kite should drop onto it's leading edge, IF...(not often) it flips and tries to take off again, just keep pulling the top center line in, the kite might spin once or twice, but will have no power and will drop onto leading edge, worst case it will just float on it's back while you hand over hand up to it...easy, Do a search, there is a video floating around on seabreeze. The trick is to commit to the move, don't let go of the top line once you have it in your hand, and don't grab a back/rear steering line...the kite will go into a death spin. Try it on a calmish day first...and not fun to do in +25kn

I released the chicken loop & as the kite started to spin and head straight down wind i undid the safety and held it with my hand, and yes kite went flying off (whoops). I just thought is was going to drag me down wind. I know its depowered but still feels like its going to throw me, the way it spins and goes nuts. Guess im used to C kite still. It was also blowing 30knts gusting 35knts.

Grabbing the centre top line looks good in that vid, but if its 30+ knots will this work?

Where was your safety LEASH that should be coonected to one line???

Then the kite flags on one line.

I think that's enough serious responses......
I've head that some of the new ones will self land, roll themselves up and go get your car for you.

I was a bit overpowered on my Ion2 the other day. So as I tried to self land, it got my 9m Fuel out of the boot, pumped it up and set up my lines!
Then it landed itself, deflated, wrapped up the bar, folded itself into the bag and jumped in the boot.

Now that's a self-landing.

The safety was attached to the centre lines. How do you get a bow kite to flag? It just keeps its shape?

Attach to the OSR "oh ****"... back lines, steering lines. Then when more accomplished the metal ring most setups have near the chicken loop... Well I think that's right, that's what I've been told.

what year model kite r u riding? new kites have a ring on ONE of the front lines that u attached your leash to. Sounds like you attached it to both which keeps the kite powered. Imagine a flag, thats what your kite will do if you hook into one safety. I just fly to the edge of the window then when the kite cant go any further a pull hard on the top front line. This stalls the kite on one side and it falls leading edge down. As its falling keep pulling on this line like you are reeling in a rope as fast as you can this will turn the Leading Edge into the wind.

smash it into the ground as hard as you can alternatively look for a group of children playing in the sand smash it into them instead.

Using a Ocean Rodeo One 07 model. I have the safety attached to one front line only, which gives the kite full depower. Next time I will try to put it on the window, let bar go and grab the top front line.

Have you tried that in 30+ knots will it stay down?

you shouldnt be flying in 30knots plus winds if u value ur life... seriously. Yes it is possible but dangerous if u stuff it up. Its pretty dumb to be kiting without mates though, things can turn pear shaped real quick. Having others with you can literally be the difference between life and death or fact and bull****.

Yes you can, but you have to scare them first so they start running away, then you can get em on the move.

As for self landing? WTF? just unhook your safety and let the kite go. Hop in your car and drive away. Next time you are down at the beach unwrap a brand new kite and use that instead.

That explains why my satellite dishes keep going missing all the time. Damn kites keep hitting the side of my building and ripping them off.

I don't have any issue with you letting your kite go, but can you at least attach the kitebag before you let go. Damn kites are piling up in my house and its a bitch trying to sell them without kitebags.

No but seriously now,The best way to land your kite in 30 knots by yourself is to use an air pistol tucks in your harness an looks real mean, yeah simply shoot the leading edge an bingo down it comes, just don't forget to patch her up before ya go out again next time. or you can use the pistol to persuade anybody near bye to catch it for ya
