What a bunch of pussy's

Yeah all the way from NSW. Good onya.

Chris is right and I am glad I said something too cos there seems to be some dreamers here (not Underoath, I mean the chucking in the 20c crew who have never been there). This is not mega remote area BUT:

The beach is impassable by 4WD at the moment. Even on a good day very experienced 4WD'ers end up winching and all the 4WD clubs say minimum of 2 fourbies with all the fruit if you are gonna drive Lano to Wedge on the beach.

Forget "we can all self rescue". Yeah, that is great but whoopdy-fkn-doo. The point is if a serious injury happens it would not be a 10min response time for an ambo like a metro downwinder would be. It would be a 1hr response time for the rescue helicopter IF you have comm's and IF you know exactly where you are and IF you can get the bloke to shore etc etc.

"Dave...." this is nothing like Margs where if you have a problem you will wash up at a well used beach. It goes thru an area that is realllly fkn hard to get into.

I have been 800m offshore with a dislocated shoulder and it is not nice. I have also seen it take hours to get to a lost person in that section of beach even though it is 10km from town.

The trip sounds like a lot of fun but it demands a great deal of respect.

Comments like Toads and Dave..... don't help.

so youre not coming? Sweet.

What injuries are you referring to, where 10 mins or an hour make any difference to your care, equipment failure? fin gash? knee on a jump?

Dude I dont get where your coming from Aussie BLOKES go on adventures..

If your uncertain dont go 800m OFFSHORE?????? Its mainlly beachies.... as I posted. And you should be competent enough to rescue SOMEONE ELSES person, and equipment......

If you can't rock and roll don't #ucken come.
Don't call emergency services and don't expect them to pick you up if you haven't checked your gear and you aren't up for it.
We don't want some simpleton from the burbs wanting the chopper or coppers or rangers to pick them up if you can't keep up.
Be prepared and enjoy the ride

Trouble is, some c0ck will always roll up, break all his stuff and expect that his mate with a Honda CRV can come get him at 1800hrs on the beach.

The point is it is people from over east have said "bunch of pussies" in response to people like me saying you have to be very competant and have some backup plans do do this DW'er.

So u disagree with me (and others) telling those who are a bit iffy to not do it unless they are really good and have planned properly?

As to injuries where 10mins vs an hour may make a difference - use ya noggin. There is plenty of that stuff. Would u like to see a list?
Being 'competant to rescue somebody elses stuff and them' is only 10% of the story if the beach is inaccessable and you have no comms to call for help. Then the 90% comes into it. Con-bloodygratulations that you have done some really good dangerous stuff.
Please tell me what would have happened if you were on the beach with a broken leg at 1700 with no comm's. Please do...

Dave; myself and a few others are pushing the point for several reasons.

Primarily is everyone should be looking after themselves and getting their sh1t together. Everyone complains about the nanny state but they also expect the nanny state to get them out of the poo when it goes pear shaped.

Secondly, several of us live here, we see first hand how many weekend warriors come up here and get in the sh1t out on the water (whatever your sport is), get bogged on the beach or hurt themselves big time in the dunes and bleed dry the goodwill of the mostly volunteers that give up their own time to get them out, rescue them or take them to hospital. You would be stunned how many people get bogged up here every weekend and ring '000' expecting volunteers to come and get them.

As I've said earlier the issue isn't what happens on the water, self-rescue is easy. But what are you going to do once you hit the beach? 10-15 km walk along a soft beach with all your gear is gonna be a bitch.

I have a vested interest as I give up my time and so do many of my mates. If some numpty ends up on the beach he is either going to be very dissappointed when no-one rushes to come and get him or may get a very frosty response if they do. I'm not all negative either, I've put some useful local info in earlier posts and passed on details to Underoath on who might be able to help with a beach recovery if the beach isn't accessible.

If things like the L2WDW become more popular you might as well start thinking and planning for 'what if...' because sooner or later 'what if...' is going to happen.

^ na we just made sure there was some cold beers for the drive back to lano hey toady.

Toads right, a lot of fuss about a 2.5 hour downy. I think we were doing 3 of them in three days back then.

Just dont down your kite and get separated from your board way out the back on those outer reefs about half way... spoooky!

well I can't imagine anyone would bother putting this post up again.
I kite in more remote places than this and one of my first things I pack is some very strong painkillers. Theres nothing worse than an hour of corrugations with some broken ribs.

Kiterdan has kindly offered me a lift up tomorrow, but only for the one kite seshion.

I really wanted to get up there early for a surf/sup then do the downwinder, then do beers and then get up in the morning and do it all over again.

(that is if i can still walk)

as the swell is to good not to take full advantage

Is there anyone else that is geared up to do the same ?

if so send me a pm,

and if not Dan, your offer will be taken up (are you sure you can not swing it )

If Relo's listening we were the first to do Eagle Bluff back to Denham in the days of C kites and no depower with a bunch of like minded maniacs. 3 hours on the water and an amazing experience with plenty of beers after.

Hahahahahahahahaha
What a memory
Best downwinder i have done to date. Didnt we leave a bit late and got to Denham just on dark?

Tomorrow's looking the goods with a 3m swell, winds look ok at around 18-19knots.

Might use the 9m over the 6m tomorrow.

Well Kent, there is actually a chance the breeze won't come in that strong down in Mandurah, - which could make the journey a lot more arduous

but def more chance of it coming in up at Lano.

i was a swinging particapant as well but the kiting down winder it is.

now i just have to decide if i am going to go for surf sup first.

Forecast is looking a treat with around 20knots and a 2.5m swell.

I, or any other kilter can't be responsible for your actions during the down winder, this is not an “event”, this is simply mates going for a kite.

Numbers at the moment indicate approximently 17 kiters, I have no idea on final numbers, all whome I have spoken to people seem keen about the DW.

Plan is to arrive at Lanno @ the windsurfers grassed carpark at approximently 11.30am Saturday, we will soon get a clear idea of total numbers.

Work out how many cars we need to take to Wedge.

If we have 17 kiters, we will need at least 7 cars to drive to Wedge, return in 2.
Naturally, we all need to be prepared to help out others with transport.

Once we return at approx 12.30/1pm, we wait for wind.

Tonight I will add the names of the crew who have expressed their interest in the downwinder. You may want to tee up a lift to Lanno and save some $$ on petrol.
