The whole thing is a joke.

I remember when Bow kites first came out, someone complaining that kite loops were now "too easy"

My answer to this sh1t is; if you are upset that riders you consider to have less ability than you (kooks) are doing kiteloops, then if you are that sh1thot,start doing doubles !!
Same to Fences. If you are bothered about beginners jumping, just do a Ruben lenton impersonation. Edge hard,go balistic, jump higher than your kite while looping it !!
Of course what you are really bothered about is,the "kooks" are jumping as high as you !

Well..... Funny you should start this string cos....

I got a new Waroo a couple of weeks ago.....

I have'nt been kiting very long and Im still learning.. But Ive found that Ive been doing really massive airs and been going WAY to far upwind..... Its annoying the crap out of me...!!!

Does anyone wanna swap it for an older, less user friendly... more unstable kite with less safety features??? (Also - Preferably with heaps less depower!)

Innovation brought us kiting, so it is all good.

Been without wind over 5 knots for 2 weeks now....I'm coping.

Damn silly topic!!

If you're not learning, they you're lacking imagination!! Jumps are so easy you don't need to edge??? Well sure I see kooks going out and doing 60ft downwind jumps a couple feet off the water, but to me that doesn't count!!

Modern kites just let you jump further and do more, especially when the wind gets light!! Anyway if you think it's so easy now, next time when on your 9m in 30 knots, go bust a kiteloop on the way up at about the 25ft mark and do a nice wide arc!!

Ah. The old "Back in my day" gripe. I am still learning and with the "modern style" kites. I wouldn't have a clue how to use the older kites and the simple fact is, I'll never ever have to. Why would I? If I have the choice of flying to London on a DC3 or a Boeing 747 should I choose the DC3 because I may be missing out on a good old fashioned flying experience?

a mate of mine has a 2line kite and its a gas, use it with the surfboard sometimes and its great for honing certain techniques. Brings back those memories when learning.

I have to agree somewhat with fences, although i think the main thing the new technology is removing is the kiters ability to adapt to different conditions. The new and improved kites allow for "softer" technique, whereas the old (broken apparently?) kites gave you a good spanking if you lost your edge, put the kite in the wrong place. bla blah.

Demo'ed a kite on the weekend in 20-35knot winds, would have been a lot more extreme on the 2line, but then again i am not that extreme so used the 2008 kite instead. I STILL got injured and it is sure to lessen my seabreeze kudos(if possible), but it was a toenail that i lost.

Valid points on the other side which I'll give, but all in all I'm not changing my view. It's funny to see all the newbies are the opposing...why?

I'm not saying you shouldn't buy older gear, I'm saying you should learn the fundamentals that it seems only the older kites enforce.

lol.
Poo-jumps and poo-stance are the trademarks of kooks with poor technique.
You can't blame advancement in kite design for non-edged jumping.
Poo-style existed way before the bow kite bounced on our beaches.

Hey Fences,
I'm guessing you use older gear, say 2005 C-kites maybe ?
Am I right ?
And you look at all the new high-depower kites....
but you can't commit to the change.
Because it would mean learning to fly a kite differently, being a kook again.
Go ahead Fences, be a kook again.
hahaha

To be honest i LOVE the new stuff. to be even more honest, i wouldnt have been allowed to learn if the "safer" gear hadnt come out.
And try to tell me anyone that doesnt love that awesome smell of unused, non de-flowered gear. ahhhhhhhhhhhh.
(especially wetties )
If u dont want to ride the new stuff, go and buy some old second hand stuff. Dont worry about waht other people are doing and just have some fun!
