Is there anyone else who needs someone to learn with? I am a beginner who has had a few lessons and am looking for someone else who might want to kite on weekdays (luv being a student).
I live in the Freo area but will travel to wherever is relatively safe/good wind. I just don't want to get into trouble on my own - stuffing up is so much nicer with an audience

I went to woodies today for a look and a few people were out but my instructor said he wouldn't really recommend woodies (too onshore) for beginners and also I didn't want to get in anyones way (saw an older post about newbies such as myself pissing off the more exp kiters there). Anyways I headed to south freo which looked perfect....no one. I waited, I paced, I started to set up and then exercised far more self control than I can usually manage and held back....extreme frustration set in. If there is anyone else in a similar predicament pls msg me so we can both get more kiting hours under our belts

Cas,
I live in Freo also and am at the stage of starting to jump. But I'd be wrapped to have someone to go out with, and besides you'll be cruising upwind in no time! Unfortunately I'm pretty stuck for the next week or so The family are visiting me from over East, plus work is a bit of a killer at the mo . But I'm sure I'll be able to get at least one surf in next week (the weekend is looking doubtful).
I work in kwinana and normally get to Woodies by 4.30pm on a weekday. I reckon woodies is fine for learning, just means a bit more walking when the wind is onshore. And the last few days it has been really quiet (where has everyone been??).
If you're looking for somewhere good to learn this weekend, on a safe beach with other kiters around to help and are willing to drive a little, Safety Bay is perfect. But don't tell anyone! Park at the Penguin Island car park, you'll see all the kiters there. That's where I spent most of my time learning and it's perfect. Cross to slight onshore breeze blowing to a point, so worse case you get blown to the point, stand up and walk! Seabreeze typically kicks in there a little earlier than Perth too.
I'll email you my contact no's.

Hi Caz,
This is my 1st season too and I also wish some of my all-talk mates had stuck at it with me so we could keep an eye out for each other, give advice and just generally get stoked about it.
I would be keen to join you but I live NOR and am using Mullaloo and Pinnanro which although a bit swelly(??) are great relatively uncrowded spots. I am keen to try Leighton soon though but perhaps that's not the greatest spot for you yet.
I have a young fam so only get to go out once a week (durn it) usually. If you are keen to try Leighton sometime give me a bell 0411644896.
I figure though being a funky kiter chicky you will be inundated with offers so good luck and enjoy wherever you end up.

Hi Getfunky,

I have been thinking about leighton but wasn't sure how good I would need to be before heading there?? I often see kiters just south of the dog beach when I walk my beasties (aka well loved mutts), is that where you are thinking of?

What kind of skill level is needed to kite there?, if I am good enough I'd love to check it out.

For the record: I am very happily married (your wife need not worry) and my hubby also started kiting this season..but before me (I tried to resist the pull of the kite but it defies all logic) so he is way better [}:)] BUT he works during the week and I don't really (student- holidays) so I need someone to kite with on weekdays (and enact my evil plan to surpass the boy ) hehe!

Hi Cas,
I posted a Q? asking if Leighton was any good for beginners recently and got mixed replies (seems there is one really psychco windsurfer with a history of abuse there as well). Have a look for this thread a couple of weeks ago.
I haven't kited there yet but am keen to soon as I am geting upwind half of the time at pinnaroo, but I think the wind hits Leighton running fairly str8 down the beach (like a full southly) which might be a bit tougher to get upwind against.
I think at the mo the place would be pretty uncrowded during the day which is cool though. I can only make 5pm+ weekdays most of the time but do get days of in lieu semi regularly. I am keen to give it a shot there so I'll drop you a mail soon.
cheers

Hmmm, I am pretty tempted to go this arvo actually as I get out of work around 4 today.
I suspect though that given the heat Leighton might be packed with fams and squids?
Give me a bell if you are interested though.
Cheers,
Ian
