Not sure if I am opening an ongoing debate or not,

I am currently at the dreaded status of the walk of shame combined with board separation. Todate I have resisted the need of using a leash, is this a good or bad thing for "beginner joe" type folk like myself?

If the advice is to get a leash, does anyone have any opinions on what leash is best?
Reel Leash?
Surf board type Leash?
Coil Leash?

Your thoughts on more equipment would be most welcome (maybe one of those Kite Gods out there may have a 2nd hand one they are willing to part with for a small contribution).

Cya out there

The first thing to do before asking a question is to do a quick search on this forum

It's all at www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4179

Ian thanks a million, sounds like the body drag approach is the lesser of the two evils

Cheers

Had the pleasure of watching a guy trying to learn the other day, he had a leash on his board and after about ten minutes he stacked hard and the board speared him in the back of the head (he wasn't wearing a helmet and was lucky it didn't hit him too hard). I shouldn't laugh but it was funny watching him rub his head with one hand and then realising he still had to control the kite with the other. He almost went into a kiteloop and got hit with the board again...
I'm pretty sure he wont be using a leash from now on.

I have used a leash successfully for 3 years now with only one incident that didnt cause any damage as I was wearing a gath helmet. I do like going out in over powered conditions where body dragging upwind is a little more difficult!

If you set up a leash system cleverly it can really help your kiting experience IN SOME CONDITIONS.

White men can jump! (With the help of my 15.5m Titan.)

When I bought all my gear I was advised to buy a reel leash, which I did, however after many attempts at using it found that I spent more time getting untangled from the leash which made my kiting more frustrating. Now I refuse to use one and if I lose the board I just body drag out to get it. It's your personal preference!

Im a beginner to and i currently use a leash and i havent found any problems with it yet. My advice is to use what ever your comfortable with because its you that will b kiting. But its always good to hear what others have to say, unless there accidents that will put you off them anyways keep on having fun kiting
