Can I suggest leaving from Port Beach, immediately south of Freo Yacht Club.
Its a very nice angle on Roto from there, with much less risk of missing the island if the wind is a bit light. Sure I understand that last time you had to complete an upwind leg, but conditions can change.
For the record, took me 35 min from Port B to Natural jetty. (with an escort boat, of course)

I think it would be a classic mission. Start at woodies and blast over to the island. We would need to have packed the credit card and mobile so we could enjoy a nice lunch at the pub, a bit of socilising to let the food go down, then semi down winder to Scarbrough where we would be picked up by our favourite support team.
A great day out.

I'm keen as mustard, if there is any organising needing doing, i'm happy to help out.
I think Ian has organised such events in the past and remember that there was a drama about rotto authorities allowing kiters to land there. Per'aps he is the best person to guide this....
Apparently your not allowed to kite to the island????????

Yes indeedy i remember the last time this was going to happen! I stress 'was' because it lay easterly all day, not a single sign of change in that wind, one of those rare days where it stays east
Any who, sounds like a mad idea

I can probably put everyone in the picture here.

The WAKSA Committee also really wants to put this on again. It was planned to run it again in Feb/March 2005 but everybody's energy became focused on organising the National Championships in Geraldton.

We've had it on the agenda to put on again in Feb/March 2006. However there are many months of preparation required getting approval from the necessary authorities. We debated the Rottnest race at the last WAKSA Committee meeting 10 days ago, and although we are all very keen to do it, we have decided to focus our efforts towards organising a series of smaller events throughout this season. The events are designed to appeal to our broader member base, be more social than just competitive, and culminate in our major event, "Kitestock" which is to be held in Port Gregory around March 2006. With a bit more momentum behind us we should be able to swing into organising the Rottnest race in the 2006/2007 season.

If you people are keen to get more involved, we've put together a special Events Sub-Committee to organise these things. Why not get involved. We're all volunteers and could certainly do with a hand from anyone else who's keen to get involved.
