Ok brains, let me pose this situation for your consideration.
Let's say you are teaching a student who has had a few lessons before and even has his own gear. The guy used to be able to do basic waterstarts, but stopped for a year for some reason. Anyway as you get him on the kite everything falls back into place and kite control is maintained to a trustable degree, however upon doing an upwind bodydrag exercise the student hesitates and feels uncomfortable. Progress is not made throughout the lesson even though the student can unarguably fly the kite well and he is keen to progress. Why????????????? (There are subtle give-aways)

For insurance and reliability some wish to do the IKO course, because they then KNOW what all instructors should be doing in a certain order. They then have the training to their name, like a teacher has a BEd.
A kiting instructor is in the genre as a classroom teacher; four years of studying at University later and a teacher emerges; an IKO course later and a kiting instructor emerges.
I can guarantee not ONE person totally agrees about what they learned at UNI and what is the right or wrong way of doing things, but it’s all taken into account. The same goes for the IKO course; what is needed is taken and applied to their lesson.
It’s not WHAT the course teaches them, but how the mental and physical information learned, is taught to the student. The same goes with kiting; it’s all about HOW it’s taught. Some are natural teachers and they are the ones, who teach, and the students learn, progress, and move on alone (and some students are just total gummies).
John Jay Chapman (1862-1923) American writer
The gift of teaching is a peculiar talent, and implies a need and a craving in the teacher himself.

I brought my kite not knowing a thing. had 30 mins in the water off the guy I brought it off which for ME was enough to get me on the water Jas has given me so many tips that have helped me. And I did not even spend a cent. Today I was talking to and watching a 40yr old lady getting lessons .Man considering she was getting there she was ripping it and she got her lessons from Jas. Get a lesson yourself. you only get x amount out of a lesson if you only want to give it x amount. A person with dedication and time will give you heaps more than someone with a PHD
