I think a lot of the above that has happened can be addressed by education that is not super obvious to everyone - mind you this can be debated in some cases! How does it compare to other sports? I am not exactly sure - between diving and paragliding? Paragliding i would guess was way more risky. Motorx riders to the orthopedic surgeons - kiters to trauma and ligament specialists! Mind you i do know of a local kiter that snapped their ankle and bone went through skin , footpad and pierced top skin of board yuuuk - only time i ever heard of it tho.:-)


i dont have a problem with competent riders teaching/helping their mates if they have common sense! i dont like the idea of a license - horrifying idea.. no need. Have never heard of 3rd party being injured other than fellow kiters. I don't like IKO particularly, but I have huge respect for quality instructors that don't "sell out", i see them as helping out everyone.

Remo is just trying to say hes the bomb n gifted but he's not smart as we can tell, just like all the dumb sh?ts that call fellow kiters kooks, what happened to being humble? Too much ego n not enough kiting lol most of us that actually try our damn best kiting know how much it hurts. If u think this sport is soft remo maybe it's u who's soft n only try things ur comfortable with n refuse to go out in winds more than 20knots cause any kiter that kites in 25+ knows how dangerous it can be n would not encourage people to not have lessons.

There is only two people in your scenario? Need at least three (3) for a middle man. Two of your parts involve an idiot (same person), the other is a noob. Did you get a happy ending with your lessons?

Liza, sorry about all of these guys bad language. Let your partner make up his mind on lessons. Buy him a DVD.

Kitepro, I like your idea of a licence. It should come with an annual fee of at least $1000 to keep some of the numbers off the water. I would be all for it!!!

My best advice lookinng back is to get as many lessons as possible for good progression. Kite surfing like other sports has inherent risk

Kitethrills are a good reputable Kite shop with excellent instructors (kitethrills.com 54388118)

I would highly reccomend them, I have had lessons from Mike and also have bought my own family gift vouchers as i was impressed with their

approach to teaching and the sport

Like a few people i have been watching this post for some time now , like a lot of post on this forum it has been hijacked by self confessed idiots


I have been kiting for 12 years , had one lesson when the type of kites then would take you for a quick ride and broken ribs if you stuffed up , different people believe they know it all , better to play it say both phsically and insurance wise and go with a good school ,many on the coast.

Having just returned back to Qld 12 nonths ago after 20 years in Wa i have started surfing again , and its refreshing to go on to the surfers forum and see none of the crap seen here , i love kitesurfing and have been doing it probably longer than most , dosent mean im better or know more , part of enjoying this sport is the freedom that it gives on the water , the idiots that seem to think that there way is the only way will have there day .

Liza get a lesson booked and have fun , take the advice of the forum , ignore the suggestions from idiots and go with the positive , great sport and im sure your partner will thank you for getting him into it.
