Tell him not to worry about lessons. Its not that harder sport to pick up.
That's a very generalised statement to make there Remo. Are you saying everyone should not bother with lessons? Yes I red-thumbed you.
I don't think that it is a very generalised statement. I got up and was going up wind after about 2hrs after self launching. So no it is not a hard sport to learn. Common sense does come into it, don't kite just up wind of a family sitting on the beach or playground equipment, or power lines the list goes on. Also rules of the road.
The controls for "Piloting" a kite is easy, Pull to the left and the kite goes left, pull to the right and I am pretty sure that the kite goes right. Right? Very tech controls for some people. If it is too technical for you then by all means get some lessons. Other wise don't bother...
More red thumbs from the guys that got lessons....
You misunderstood my comment. I said "that's a very generalised comment". In other words, your comment sounded like you are talking on
behalf of everyone.Yes the basics of kite control is the "pulling of the bar, left & right". But that is not all. If it were that easy (and obviously you're just way cooler and smarter than all of us so good for you), then why are people even experienced kiters still getting hurt or killed out there? And please lets not forget what happened to Quinn, Nev, and so many other guys that are in hospital because of the reality of kites doing what "God wanted them to do", not what we wanted them to do.
Every kite, every supplier and manufactorer of kites always stipulate the
terms & conditions of using their kites - in other words - only after
you've had enough lessons and
competent to use it properly.Yeah sure, I know many other guys that took that risk and taught themselves. Good for them, but they are the lucky ones.
I challenge you to grab someone that has not even heard of kite surfing and pass onto them a 12mt kite in 18knots! Lets see what they do with it, eh?
