Im interested to hear of other peoples experiences with the honeycomb type future fins for kite surfboards?

Yesterday I snapped the outer fin (a thruster setup) clean off at the base - and I have never hit anything - not even the sand ?? (its a Axis newwave with 'Axis honeycomb' fins)

My mate has a North Nugget and I looked at his fins out of interest today - lots of stress cracks and they look like they could let go at any time !!

I have other surf boards that run solid glass future fin type and despite hitting sand and the odd reef etc not a sign of a problem - apart from the dings in the leading edge - whoops !

So whats the go with the honeycomb construction ?? Are they piss weak fins ? How often do they have to be replaced in other peoples experience??

I have an Axis New wave also and they're fine, I've even hit a few rocks with them and they don't crack much. Only when I hit them hard it does damage.

Axis new wave
Been through a few -shallow sandy bottom and mud
can only conclude that they are sacrificial
made to be weak to break rather than damaging the board IMO
have been advised to get better fins as they are known to be weak

Yes, they are BS. Just put in the old solid plastic FCS fins. you will not even care if you loss one on the reef.

Nothing wrong with genuine FCS honeycomb. I've had them for years. I also use cheaper copies though not honeycombs. The copies are hit and miss. Some are good others not.

Plastic fins are rubbish

I had the same with futures. Broke 3 within no time. The honeycomb at the base cracks.

FCS fibreglass - never had problems.
