Lightwind Claims Two Riders, Large Waves Drag Kite & Tangled Rider

Several illustrated accident accounts have been prepared and sadly more are on the way. Some accidents are more avoidable than others, often through AWARENESS. That is why these summaries have been prepared to build hazard awareness and to discuss ideas on how to try to avoid repeated accidents.

The goal is not to promote fear or threats to access but entirely the opposite through spreading of information and promotion of sustainable riding practices. People demand reasons for change in habits sometimes. Some very good reasons are provided in these accounts.

Thanks Rick,

I've seen your dedicated work before and it's great to see that you have now found SeaBreeze to send your message further.

Best regards,
Aaron.

Hi Rick,

You definitely work hard to improve the safety of our sport as a whole and everyone appreciates your efforts. Your reports are well written, comprehensive, and generally useful to kiters at all levels.

I'm not sure, however, that you need to post reports to this forum as well as kiteforum, fksa and others. Most people on this forum will see your reports already on one of those sites.

David.

I would have missed it KBD...I really don't have the time to be on more than one of these things, so I would have missed it. However, I would have to agree that the branding is a bit off....one could just talk about hook knives.

Always happy to learn more. Maybe a new folder called accidents, eh Laurie?

Thanks for the input guys. Seabreeze has grown very well in size. I added some more info about two other incidents. These involved the kite lines becoming snagged on something while the kite loaded up with current. As a result in each case, the rider was pulled underwater. One guy had a knife and reacted. The other rider did not have a knife but fortunately a bystander jumped in to help. More at:

I'm with Gruzei - I only read Seabreeze these days - even then it's hard to find the time to read it regularly - especially in summer.

So Rick, please keep posting links to new lessons learned (even if it's more sad news) - it's the key to improving safety in our sport and nobody has done more than you - well done mate!

KBD please post links on Seabreeze to anything important that you come across on all those other sites too :-)

Good to hear from you Ian. I hope winter is coming on well down your way. Thanks and will do. I have about 8 projects in the works, some of the happy informative variety and some not sad to say. More should be going up in the next few days.

I have put up a link to Seabreeze on the "FOUND IT ... On The Net!" forum of the FKA site at: www.fksa.org/forumdisplay.php?f=1 and will definitely forward attention to articles on Seabreeze.

Keep those stories of daring do coming in from Oz. You folks are still leading the pack in that department in the "Way To Go" forum, at:

Wicked - that's what these forums are all about - getting tooled up with knowledge to make your sport better, and make you better.

Some of those stories are chilling, and a welcome reminder of the dangers. Well done to Ricki, as it's easy to forget the danger when you're busting to try out that new kite/board/wettie...

..Lozza

p.s. I only read seabreeze too!
