Searching the lightest harness available.

Just wondering if any of the shop owners & forum uses on here could weigh their harness' and put up the results in grams.

I am living in Switzerland and have to travel to kite. I have reduced my weight as much as I can. But my lightest harness 600gr that I purchased from John @ SOS in 2001 is at the end of its days.

Thanks in advance

Lightest weight is going to be a converted climbing harness and hook into the caribiner.

I did try that on my trip to Sicily. Wasn't so great on my back. I still think a kite harness is the way to go just trying to find the lightest option.

Check the Mystic Legend harness. I have the 2016 version and it's quite light compared to other harnesses I tried. It also doesn't absorb water, so it stays lighter than the rest. The Legend's not as comfortable as the cushy/plushy ones with memory foam but I like a light harness. Jay now makes a similar harness that doesn't absorb water but I'm not sure about its weight.

Weight is a parameter you should take under account but very light standard waist harness means low support of your back.
The new hard shell technologies help to produce lighter harnesses.
Jay waist harness with cf spreader bar in m-l size is 1500gr dry and about 1520gr wet.

You should see it from a different point of view. Kite equipment almost doubles its weight when wet. If you wear a long sleeves wet suit, an impact vest and a harness you weight around 4-5kg more.
I agree comfort is more important.

From a travel perspective it makes sense. Light weight = fit more gear on your holiday.
I have the Jay harness which is pretty light. I also have the ozone snow kiting harness with spreader bar. That is also light. But more importantly its compact for travelling. It would be worthwhile considering the Ozone snow kite harness without spreader. That will be real light and very compact for travel.

Don't forget then to select your luggage correctly. Mystic now have a lightweight travel version with reduced padding that knocks a couple of kg off the weight.

I second Mystic Legend as it has a more rubbery material as opposed to neoprene that does hold water.

Also has lots of support.

Thats my 2 cents worth ;)

Take care with that mate. Windsurf harnesses aren't designed to handle the same loads on the spreader as kite harnesses. I used a windsurf harness for the first session whilst learning. After the second time the webbing slipped (kite still attached to the harness on the spreader bar via other side of the harness webbing), I went off and bought a kite harness.

Some 'might' work alright but .... its your risk.

... can you find out if the spreader bars are different lengths (widths) for different size harnesses?

cheers,

Robbie

I just checked on the sizes at Kitepower S,M,L and they all have the same size spreader bar. I tried on the M and the L and the L fits me best and I wear size 33 pants.

All you need is a borat mankini with a talon slider on a carbon ride engine or a reality check and a new set of ball's! Or a sponsorship would make you suck anything up... Just enjoy kitesurfing and don't be a fool, as Mr T quote's... Suckers

Weight shouldn't be an issue unless you unhook or travel. If you think about it, the kite takes the weight of the harness when riding. I'd be more concerned with comfort and support.

It is September! Show us the goods. Currently still riding the Exo and like the philosophy of Manera for designing harnesses. The Exo is one of the very few that I can wear after breaking my ribs as it does not squeeze and has a great hold down design for the spreaderbar. This season it will be time for an upgrade so any shops where I can fit the 2018 line in WA?
