Hi all.

I happened to drive past Australind today and discovered it's butter smooth, flat water magic. Unfortunately, there wasn't any wind to get out there.

Can any locals please advise where is the best/preferred/authorised launch spot? I'm keen to head back down when there's some wind, but don't want to upset locals & rangers etc.

cheers,

Juddy

I have kited there once. If there is a good SW wind then you will more than likely see kiters setting up on the large grass area near the bottom of cathedral avenue just north of where it joins the old coast road. It was a fun spot. Some trees and a road close by but you can walk out in the shallow water to launch if your that way inclined so its pretty safe.

hey juddy
I used to live down there before i moved to Mandurah. Australind can be a very good spot to kite but only on certain areas. The launch can be a bit tricky(gusty and unpredictable) so best check with one of the locals first as there has been one severely bad accident there and many many close calls with kites landing on the other side of the road. the guys are happy to see you down there but be careful. if you catch up with brent or ken down there they will help you out, if its windy one of them will be there. If noones out, go launch from the sandbar. remenber its also VERY (less than half a foot in places)shallow and has a heap of crabs running around in there as well.

Punchy,

thanks. crabs. great. that means booties no doubt!!

where is the sandbar? i saw a grassy area northish of the shopping area & boat ramp that looked like a potential launch spot, but again, any extra info would be great.

thats pretty much the spot. the sandbar is just offshore from there, as soon as summer starts properly the sandbar will be above the water so its easy to see.
