Amazes me that people who move to an area suddenly become "locals" and start talking up locals only, secret spots, two years ago no-one kited here, etc, etc.

No-one owns the beaches or seas!

Travel, search, visit, enjoy everywhere and anywhere.

But localism to keep access has almost become an necessity in some parts, some areas in the uk have had to form clubs to keep access, if you are not a club member then no kiting. I would hate to see this occur over here.

If everyone was considerate when they go somewhere new, then there would be no issues.

When you go somewhere new, ask at the local store, on a forum or even local kiters if there are any restrictions, hidden rocks, dodgy currents or even the circuit formation to queue up for the show pony jump zone. This really helps and the locals really appreciate people being considerate.

It is amazing what people do when there favourite spot is threatened. Some areas are on a knife edge of having restrictions placed on them. And it only takes one person to ruin the hard work of a lot of "local" people who have campaigned for access at that spot.

Every where should be free to access. Just do you research first!!

Nothing tribal about that, or even local, just good old American imperialism. The resort "Tavarua" (=an American by the name of Jon Roseman) claims to "own" the right to surf cloudbreak.

Localism sucks. Kite anywhere, but take your rubbish with you when you go.

Take 'em with you when you go down the beach. If they're too small to pump your kite up or carry your gear for you, you could always use 'em to weight your kite own on the beach or hold your kitebag down so the wind doesn't blow it away while you're on the water

Sounds like there is a good reason to get kids.. I'm gonna look into it, call some old flings, may have a kid jibbing around somewhere in the world, fakie. You never know...

I'm a local while I am wherever I am.
So in my case, I'm local everywere but nowhere in the same time, as wherever I go I'm never a local....

I am 3rd generation Palm Beach, Grandfather, Father now me. Lived here all my life, love my area and never intend on leaving. I've Got a hell of a lot of respect for my area, will protect it if need be (there's been the odd 3am boxer short run after f-witts vandalizing my area).

I don't know if I fit the Local stereo type that is trying to be painted here, but if you get Kiting banned at my local beach, I will be after you.
