With all these giant swells and westerly onshore gales, wher do you go if you cracve down the line waveriding.

Well I revisited a spot ath the weekend that I windsurfed years ago but hadn't been to for several years, Long Point in Rockingham [it lies about 500m upwind of the beachside carpark at Port Kennedy Resort].
Basically a north facing beach and huge shallow sandbank that picks up waves that refract through a gap in the offshore reefs, The swell should be 3m plus [the bigger the better] and you get a long [up to 200m] peeling down the line wave that ends on the sandy beach is perfectly cross-shore in a WNW with but kitable from W -NW and very clean and given the other options around Perth for that wind direction it is pretty much the best one for wave heads. It is never really big maybe up to just overhead and does get a rolling cross wave that but is cleaner at low tide and it is pretty soft but loads of fun.

The Rockingham locals have been getting it to themselves for far too long and I thought I should spread the word to the benefit of all mankind [especially as I dont live there].....sorry guys.

Caution's spot on. No slashed tyres on last occasion but, The pricks took everything of little value I left in there. The worst thing is the cost of window and locks that need replacing now. Cops said others have reported break ins in the area. It's pretty remote out there.

That's one helluva a drive for a maybe wave in a wind direction thats fluky at best.

Head on down for a session boys, let me know if its cooking and i might be bothered driving there from the harbour.

oh, make sure you wear your grid-iron shoulder pads to deflect the wonderous kiteboy. CAREFUL: that frothing might be rabies!!!

poor form i agree to post such detail, quick google earth and there i was,

one could dress it up in mystical or cryptic discriptions, all more fun then if found

however did make the trip yesterday (with 2 others), therefore confirming fears of a perth migration

fear not, will not be returning

ok if your local, noting not many living round there as it is
wouldnt travel 1 hr for it

given 20-30kn wn/wester and 5m swell, if thats the best it can be, good luck rocko locals!

i'm heading north next to another super secret location only known vaguely as "the spot"- can anyone help on that one??

OK enough said but this is like people in the surfing community just spurting out where shipsterns is sure everyone knows its in tassie but not exactly where it is you should keep spots to yourself especially if your NOT A LOCAL or don't even live near the spot I'm lucky enough to live near some of the best spots around Perth but i don't tell people where they are

interesting idea's about "localism"...i didn't realise that KB or any of the Safety Bay/Rockingham crew 'owned' Pengo's/the pond/Long Point. Just as I didn't realise any of the Mosman Park Posse or Cottesloe crew 'owned' Leighton or Dutchies.

I live in West Perth. If I make the effort to drive to a spot, whether it's Pinaroo, Leighton or Safety bay I'm going to be buggered if I'm put off by somebody screaming 'local's only'.

Beaches, and by default, spots, aren't owned by anyone.

How do you define local....
There are no breaks mandurah to perth that are secret any more.
in fact since Google Earth is anywhere secret any more?

yeah i live bout 5k's from long point and bout 15 from safety bay but anyways even if you did drive all the way to the spot i bet you would be happier if there were only like 2 or 3 kites on the water rather than 20 I'm not saying don't go to new spots I'm just saying the more people at a spot the worse the spot becomes

With a 5m swell and stormy N-NWers to work, I can hardly think this spot will get crowded... 2 sundays ago we were at Avalon (hardly secret) Cross-onshore, W-N-W 25-30 something knots and 5 guys out....(3 in our group). Lots of spectators though.
Isnt k*&% B#@ from Secret Harbour??? Thats not really Secret. In both N-W and S-W you can do a excellent downwinder.... Park one car at Singleton Beach and one at KB's house... There's uninterrupted waves for miles.....

Actually,
Niall's post is an interesting example of ego-tripping.
The post was designed to be provocative....
to stir up the so-called locals,
but really it was just some oneupmanship thing....
He got it sooo good, the rest realllly missed it.
lol.
By the way, he's not sorry.

Drugs ???
A 7m bow is good for me in 15 knots and waves.
You seem sceptical, Dave ?
You mustn't fly bows, hey ?
It's all about the projected area and technique.
Felix uses a similar size kite or smaller for the same windspeed.

As illiterate as kiteboys remablings are he's actually got a point. Theres a good spot where i kite in a southerly which has been in kbmag and online in different sources, so now when its windy (which only seemed to happen about a handfull of times this year) there were blowins everywhere clogging up the spot and disregarding the rules (going threw surfers in the wrong spots, and not obeying the unspoken laws of the spot even when told) it kind of leaves a bitter taste in your mouth that these turkeys turn up in there long wetties with boardies over the top and think they own the joint.
p.s. one thing i cant stand is that this spot is not "just a waveriding spot" its also great for a bit of flatwater and hitting kickers which is totally understood by the locals who all make an effort to share out not only the good waves but try and make space when others are launching off kickers on the way out.
I think this is really a point to consider at any good wave spot, its not always about comming in on the waves some people want to launch off them and they have as much right to do so as the folks comming in on them so please have a think about that next time you head out..

You guys all winge about your spot being outed, try kiting at woodies, about a billion euros rock up each summer, blow out to sea, tangle with the locals and cut them off at every opportunity. Doesn't matter anymore considering it is closed but still get a grip be glad your spot is still semi-secret.

Bradley, I do come to secrets and kite surf, its soooo good cause theres waves for miles and as soon as your past the surf right in front there's no surfers, as I said, it rocks. What's with the black eye smiley, do you need CAPITAL LETTERS to make an idle threat?
Mate your like the size of a flea...get real..
Ive said before on this forum, your mouth cashes cheques that your little body can't carry so dont start little bunny.

Waveslave, 2 sundays ago I was out on a 7m crossbow (red) at Avalon, you were saying it was too gnarly and how you pick your days now whilst talking to one of the other fellas I was with, huddling at the toilets... I'll let you know when it's 15knots, and no stupid I ride Bows and Hybrids. LOL, you're prediction is a joke like most of your posts.

Haha, come on down you'll all get sick of me dropping my kite and getting in the way. Just ask KB, you won't come back in a hurry. It gets frustrating apparently[}:)] Oh yeah I heard about that dude's car that got trashed. Bad luck mate, little pricks. It's much better mate if you get a 4X4 and take the back tracks from Secret Harbour. You can stop at KB's for a coffee on the way home...

And your point is.....??????
I remember that sunday,
it was 30 knots.
I don't kite in 30 knots.
I can't edge my rail on the waveface in 30 knots.
I use my 7m bow between 15-25 knots.
It's a one kite quiver, man.
I'm happy with that range.
Are you happy, dude ?

True but I recognise good conditions and when theres big swell I like to mix it up, I'm crap in the waves, I ride twinny most of the times in them, but it is fun. Too much freestyle gets on your brain, spend session after session trying to nail a trick gets frustrating after a while, waves I don't feel like I have to push it or anything just have fun. Mandurah eastury is flat water, can't say I am the biggest fan of it but not a bad alternative to point walter, probably better on its day. Avalon looks the goods though slavey' some nice kickers, might pay you a few more visits over summer, when it's 15-25 knots.

As for me I kite in anything almost I don't choose my conditions too much, just an addict.

Wow I didnt expect a post like that to generate such reaction, and no slave I'm not on an ego trip saying 'look I got what you didn't'.

I just thought I'd share with everyone an obscure spot that is definitely the place to be on the rare day that it actually works, for those new to the sport or who have never been there. It's hardly a secret spot, just one of those unique spots that occasionally has it's day, that deserves to be publicised occasionally, or it might slip completely off the radar.

I dont think crowds are going to be an issue, as you say yourself you go home after the wind exceeds 25kts..

On a similar vein, and this time right in my own back yard, the Cables artificial reef fired on Sunday evening, with a crosshore northerly, a 4m swell and a low tide. A handful of the local crew were on it and it was probably ......at least for that couple of hours......... the only place to be, but you wouldn't be holding breath waiting for those conditions to happen again, but you will file that one away somewhere so that when it does you will be on it.

On of the great pleasures of winter surfing [and now kiting] is constantly watching the changing conditions and your brain computing all the variables that can make a fickle, local, seldom ridden spot fire, and the flashbulb going off in the head......'you know I think that spot might just be firing'........ and then coming to the top of the beach and seeing that you were right....and the knowing nod you get from the couple of other guys who turn up too ..... the 'yes you were thinking what I was thinking' nod.

Yes there is an almost indefinable satisfaction in that and to call it 'egotism' means that slavey, you are sadly completly missing the point.
