Hi there

A friend and i have just arrived in Perth and would really like to have some kite surfing lessons, perhaps something like a 3 day course.

We are complete beginners so any pointers would be very helpful.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks
Maz

Welcome Maz,

Do a search on this forum. This is a FAQ...

ok I ll help you... Here s an extract of an old post:

Stick with the 12m and get a lesson or two, either from myself (Australian kiteboarding school)(Pinnaroo) or Choicey South of Freo or thru S.O.S. or Ian Young (river), Rob Galvin (Mullaloo), or Pelican Point (river). All of these schools use IKO qualified instructors that will speed your entry into the sport safely.

Good luck...

Hi Maz, give us as ring at Pelican Point Kitesurfing - 93861830

We teach on the River at Nedlands - shallow for ages and close to the city. No one really does the IKO style 3 day thing that you get in the UK, but all the safety and skills are covered as you would expect. Usually people take about 3 lessons - 1st lesson is 2 hours, and just concentrates on kite skills on the water - max group 4. Lesson 2 is 2 hours, with max 2 people and covers 4/5 line kites and the waterstart, leaving lesson 3 (one on one for 1 hour or 2 people for 2 hoours) for getting up and going. So you're looking at about 5/6 hours to give you enough skill and safety awareness to be independent.

Hope to talk to you soon, cheers, Nat

Hey kik,

Not sure whether you are enquiring about becoming an IKO instructor or just to get rider lessons. If you are interested in becoming an IKO instructor, the price is the same anywhere in the world, $570 USD.

Lesson prices vary depending upon where you go and who you learn with, whether you are solo or in a group and are getting certified by IKO or rogue.

Usually you get what you pay for so if it is cheap, be suss!

Thanks KH,

Wondering because was thinking of doing the IKO inst course in Hua Hin Thailand.

They quote on their website $700USD. I guess it's a rip off then huh.

Shoudl probably fly to somewhere in OZ to do it over the summer.

Hi again Kik,

The $570 is the IKO recommended price for the host school to charge, however they are under no obligation to stick to that pricing.

If you are keen, let me know, either that or I'll see you in Koh Samui, Thailand in three weeks for the next course!

Congratulations to Jamie (Northern NSW), Frank (Newcastle), Morgan (Newcastle), Jesse (New Zealand), Joel (Torquay), Andre (Geelong), Alexis (France) and Louis (Sydney) who just completed their IKO level 1 in Sydney!

Good Winds
