Hey......has anyone lost their kiting mojo before, and if so how did you get it back?

Mine has gone on vacation, and even despite having not gone out for four weeks, I still didn't feel that buzz when on the water yesterday and it was a beautiful sunny and windy day.

There was a period of misplaced mojo back while living in Johannesburg and not kiting all that often. Then I learnt a new trick.

What is the next trick you can't do yet? Read up on it, think about it, dream about it, then go try it flat out until you get it. Then do it another couple of times to be sure and go home with a warm mojo-ish glow all around you.

Lost it a couple of months ago when persistently riding a directional .Had one lit session on a twin tip and got it back .Just relax and go nuts .

Cheers

Bummer... I used to get this from surfing (it is crap in Perth 90% of the time any way)

Yep after a few frustrating sessions and trying a differant set up or even location I can be a bit "not quite there". I put it down to too much distraction...

However when a really good session comes along (as it so infrequently did surfing) it re-ignited the thirst big time!!

Maybe it is something non-kiting lurking in the back of your scone? These things have a way of elbowing their way up front eventually. Or maybe it is just always being around the ocean/waves and you need an absence for a week or so to revist the craving. Try heading bush for a weekend or more?

Hey if we all had Moet (that's mo-ett not mo-ee BTW) for brekkie it would be about as exciting as cornflakes...

Hope you get ya mojo back asap spunky trunks... at very least the winter break will be sure to get the fire slowly building.

As for new tricks - Pat I had a crack at a backroll in 27kts last night on the 9m!!! F**kn Ell!!! I got smashed the hardest and most full on to date!!! I now have shredded (really - completely down one side) impact vest!!! One of those moments when I thought daggin it up in a Gath and vest ist definately the way to go... Bloody sore though... Only managed another 10-15 mins before packing it in..

Up for a downwinder this arvy

Lost the buzz? Thats some bad times ma freeend.

I lost it while ago, I was just trying too hard, going for tricks, not landing and getting punished, I wondered what it was all about. Had a couple of weeks off the water - even thought about stopping totally.

Dont worry kids it gets better... I went out for a really mellow sesh, we had waves which was prettty rare for my old spot, but just had a 2 hour session of simple riding, hitting waves, no tricks, just riding. I rediscovered once of the most peaceful and exillarating sport ever. Think about what it is that is spoiling your enjoyment, and get rid of it.

Maybe your mojo has been working so hard it needs a rest a kinda short vacation.

Thanks

I found my surfing Mojo in Byron at Clarks Beach. Well if you can call what I do surfing, it looks more like a floundering fish on a choping board.

haha....yeah my version of surfing is very similar, much like a beached whale trying to get out of the shallows!

Maybe I should do a big road/air trip to each state in Australia to find the mojo....it'll be somewhere out there!

C'mon man, you had a crack at a backroll, I got them waxed years ago.

And it was barely 27 knots, more like 24-25.

There was some stoke going though, and definitely some mojo, it was a good session. Downwinders rock.

Not today though bru, as soon as I get out of the office I'm off to Wedge.

hit the waves strapless
I was in a rut where i wasn't learning any new tricks for a while. but riding strapless isn't that hard and it made me focus on riding waves rather then just concntrating on tricks. lots of fun without having to push yourself beyond whats comfy

Caelah!

i kinda know how you feel, ive been condemed to 5 months work in the US. 4 weeks till i get home

so to bring on the Mojo i bought myself a naish customfish, to hit the waves with....... cause flatwater just wasnt quite doen it for me.

sometimes a change of scenery/environment is all that is need to bring it back...... after all they say variety is the spice of life...

Gee!!! how insitefull of me

Caelah I know how you feel I lost my mojo for a while , now Im mixing it up and riding alot more in the waves and nothing more excites me now than doing that, Im also lucky to kite with a crew that loves to mix it up and kite different locations.

The Bay is good and its great to have a kite after work but on weekends if you have time there are so many great kiting spots within a two hour drive that are worth going to.If I was just to ride flat water all the time or think that the Bay was it I dont think I would be kiting as much as I am now.

Sadly I'm pretty sure kiting is banned entirely in Byron shire

Kiting is allowed at Lennox (just south of Byron).....great spot!

I hate it when my computer put two replys in (faulty "enter" button probably the user). I guess I'll send in a e-mail to NSWKBA cause on their site it says that you can kite in the Byron Shire (They've got a listing for Clarks). Also the last time I was up there guys where kiting @ Tatlows. That said I have no issue going down to Lennox probably be less people there around easter time anyways.

Caelah,

The kitesurfing "mojo", you have it or you don't have it.
If you have it, it is impossible to loose it, unless forced by a disability or something like that.

The AKSA logo, when first started was:

"Kitesurfing ... there is no cure"!!!!, and I still wear this T-shirt with pride.

I had a really hard accident, got trough shoulder reconstruction, haven't been on the water for 4 months already, and I cannot wait for the moment I will be back, with the canopy above my head and the board under my feet, "slashing" through the water.

The only think I can suggest to you, get your priorities right, get into account all you want to do in the future and think about what kitesurfing is offering you.

If it is too little than other thinks you want to do, you never had the "mojo".

I hope you get to the right decision.

Good luck

Thanks everyone for your advise, it's really appreciated.

I went out on Saturday with a girlfriend and despite being overcast, cold and raining the entire time I really enjoyed the session, it cheered me up when I needed it most! The water was so smooth, good strong winds and caught up with a lot of people I haven't seen in a long time which was really great.

I love kiting and I know that will never go completely, but it's that buzz that still needs it's fizz back. I'm sure it will come so to assist I'm going to avoid kiting locally at the weekends unless I really have to which will force me out of my comfort zone, and have some great friends who are going to push me forward. So fingers crossed all will be good very soon.

I'm going to Byron with a friend who lives up there so she'll know where we can and can't kite.....I'll keep you posted :-)

Thanks again everyone

too be honest I think you are quite fortunate. It would make my life a lot easier if I didnt enjoy and obsess about kiting so much.
Weekends and holidays just arent that great unless its windy.
Ive been to amazing places like mexico and sicily and been miserable because its not been windy.

still i wouldnt change a thing..... better to have loved to have not.

Hey cRAZY Canuk.....You're right! I can't find any info on a ban anywhere...I'll ask the person who told me, where they got that idea from.

Hey Caelah.....sorry to branch off topic there.....happy to hear you're getting warmer on the 'mojo' search
