Fixed 3 kites in one day in Bali with one roll of gaffer tape, then fixed a bridle replacing it with fluro light/fan cord....
Any more Macgyvers?

i used a few condoms to fill the cavity (no pun intended) space in the strut when a replacement bladder didn't fit quite right.

I broke two kites in one day. Two swim in's and two sessions untangleing lines.... The inverse of a Macgyver

I blew a hole in the LE bladder of an old CO2 by not putting the little flap back across behind the zip out at the end of one wingtip. Tied a knot in the bladder and stuffed the wingtip full of styrofoam, worked a treat.

Carefull, you'll be puttiing the kite shops out of business.Next you will be splicing together broken lines or worse still, shortening and resleeving frayed ends.Great to hear people can still fix stuff.Wonder if you could replace all bladders with styrene foam?(to heavey)?

I can see it now......pumping up, the LE bladder explodes and all you have in the car is a can of that Space Invader foam stuff.

Logic says: "No way! Think of the mess! Think of what happens after it hardens and you can't get it out! You'll never be able to roll the kite up to put it back in the car. etc etc etc"

Desperation says: "Goddam....that just might work!"

The stuff I used I shaped from some solid bits out of the packing for some mining equipment. Being in Ghana at the time I wasn't holding out for any replacement bladders in a hurry. It was a bit heavy but didn't effect the kite flight significantly. I don't know if an entire LE would do so well with it. Perhaps in a 7m kite for those 35 knot days in Cape Town to slow it down a bit?

Not so much kite related, but here goes...

In about 2002 I replaced the gearbox in my Honda Civic, all went well except for the bolt that SHOULD have been tightened....

In front wheel drive cars you have 2 bars running from your gear stick to the box, and one to change gears, one to stabilise the whole thing, so yeah, the one that stabilises everything wasn't tight enough, and came undone, so at the intersection of Toorak and St. Kilda roads I have no gears what so ever!

Assess the situation, get the ankle strap from my board leash (was still using one then!) and strap it around the 2 bars, holding the stabilising arm in its place!

Really Macgyvered my way out of that situation!

Is there any wind yet?

I never leave home without gaffa onboard.

Nashua gaffa is the go. $20 a roll but absolutely s**ts over all others. It will still be hangin on when you are pushing up daisies. Can be a problem though if you want to remove it without causing damage.

There have been sooo many dodgy situations (not exclusive to kiting) that i have escaped thanks to my mate Nash.... essential equipment on a holiday as it virtually replaces a whole tool kit.

Nope not Bunnings, they only stock US gaffa or Shure tape, which are both truly crapolla in comparison.

Here is a link for a pro audio place in Melbourne called Factory Sound.

In Sydders etc try somewhere like Manny's music shop or similar.

Jaycar av it also

Oh I forgot to say don't try and rip it with your teef like stiky tape, as I have seen people do, it will seriously take a layer of skin right off ya lips!

Hmmm cheaper than botox for that puffy look I spose??

Saturday morning is going to suck for me, I land back in Perth Friday night and have a convergence of 3 different drinking teams to deal with, then at 9.15 in the morning I have a chiro appointment. Might be in two whole worlds of pain after that. Could shuffle down to somewhere for a kite after that if I have the power for it though.

Otherwise I was thinking Sunday and/or Monday mornings, back to site Tuesday.

No encyclopedia for that one, my ex asked me to go along with her sister to a cosmetic surgery in Bondi Junction once to distract her while she got botox. Usually my ex would have gone but she had to work. Learnt a whole lot on that trip. For those who don't know, botox works by simply paralysing the muscle for a month or so. No movement, no wrinkles. So for facial wrinkle treatment, limited facial expressions. She was keeping it secret from her boyfriend but almost came unstuck when he discovered she couldn't move her eyebrows.

The little Macgyver in me thought 'a month's paralysis, could come in handy'. Like when someone passes out drunk, then for some strange reason half their fingers don't work for the next month . Pity it's so expensive.

As for your other question, I have had a couple of decent sessions since the AGM, thank you. 4 or 5 that would pass muster in fact, and one that was a bit of a failure.

And correct me if I am wrong, but does botox it it's original form come from snake venom? and it's also extreemely deadly? - well if it's from snake venom I guess it must be eh.

Ok, that now calls for wikipedia:

"Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxin protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is one of the most poisonous naturally occurring substances in the world. Though it is highly toxic, it is used in minute doses both to treat painful muscle spasms, and as a cosmetic treatment in some parts of the world."

aka Botox

The article doesn't say anything about snakes anywhere, but that doesn't mean it's not true.

So we have now established that not only do girls wear makeup because they're ugly and perfume because they stink, they inject poison into their muscles because they're old and wrinkly. Ewww...

Botullism(Sp) toxin is a muscle spasmodic bacteria that I think occurs in some food products. You can get Botullism or salmonella from infected food.
Botox has been used to treat wrinkles, and muscle spasm diseases eg spina bifida through its paralysis-like effects
