Hey I work for a kite company and get product instead of money, does this mean i have to do the pro devision,
In most sports pro riders are the ones who are paid. Hence they have cash prize money. Opens would recieve only prizes as to recieve cash would then make you a pro..
I think this devision is long over due as compo no.s has been dropping in open men as most locals don't want to compete against the sponsored boys coming in from out of town. I sreally good to see joe.
Could you list some judging criteria as well, hence do we have to wear bindings to place and park the kite ( wake style) or is this a freestyle event?
How about listing celebrit who will be attending?
will congo be there?
ps was great to see you at tannum ripping jof and mel, can't wait to get up to mackay..

What a great idear to seperate the field.
I have been talking to a few of the upcoming local girls about going and they are a little worried about going up against the more experienced girls.
I think this will really encourage more people into contests.
Personally it does not matter what the prize, size of trophy, money is....Odds are I won't win....Chances are I'll just have a great time and be stoked to see new people joining the contest scene...
In my opion if you get gear for free or cheap, someone along the line is paying for it. If your ride at the level to get shop, dealer, international sponsorship go into the Pro field and leave the other field to the people who we need to enter to keep our sport growing NEWBIEs, social and unsponsored riders.
Keep up the good work ARSA......
This event will be awesome.

Hey arsa sorry i didn't mean to offend you with my question just thought I'd put it in there early so when someone does ask you later you will have an answer for them..
for instance someonbe wrote something about someone doing an air pass has to be a pro? You can't say because some one can do a handle pass in the air they are pro thats basing ability biase. I know some people who have riden for 2 years and are doing basic jumps i've known people who in 4 months are doing passes.
I have never won an event and have prob done more then anyone in australia, I don't do it to win I'm happy if i ride as well as i can reguardless of place. Main thing is I'm happy to be out of the office, mnaking new friends, meeting up with old ones, and hanging out having fun..
I can't wait to get away from this winter and up there and catch up with you guys and the crew. It will be a great event and alot of fun as the crew there are really cool.
Will see you all in a couple of months..![]()

have a novice devision. State that its for riders who have been kiting 12 months or less. Anyone who comes in the top 3 or 5 has to move to open division the next year.
works best if your holding regular comps. Having actual obvious novices who are doing basic tricks seems to deter the guys who are really good from entering just to win. bit embarrassing for the guy in 1st place to start pulling 30 foot kiteloops and mobes when 2nd place is doing frontrolls.
and anyone who is that good within 12months well let them have a win and move onto opens next time.

Great idea. This is basically what we are doing as I would hope that the individual would rate themselves in the correct category. Most riders who are doing the complex moves should set themselves a challenge and ride against the Pro level. This way you are letting the novice riders have a go.
It would be a much better to see an unsponsored, unknown rider come 3rd in the Pro then take out the Open division. You think?
Our biggest challenge at the moment is getting through this many divisions in 2 main days as Monday will be only used if we have too.
Thanks all for your input aswell.

I also agree that a novice category is a great idea. Some other sports have defined novice as first competition, so the first comp you enter, you get to be a novice, after that you're onto the opens.
The only potential problem I can see with using the first-year concept is that different people have different time available to spend on the water, so you could have someone who gets out every second sunday up against someone who kites daily.
Having said that, I actually quite like the first-year = novice idea
So I reckon novice should = first year + first comp. Subsequent comps you move to open class.
Any thoughts?
