Where the hell does this data come from - its bollocks!

It was howling down here today pumping 25-30 knots and Seabreeze didnt even show a single green arrow !!! WTF???

Its morally WRONG!

(Then again - who wants everyman and his dog down here anyhow ....

The wind was very disappointing today down in Manduragh

The weather readings are taken from a channel marker outside the river mouth down by the Mandurah Marina.

It's a BOM station, It's hardly ever accurate so don't blame Loz

lol.
You poleys have been driving with the handbrake on for years.
Yeah, it was 15 knots in the deadmeat launch-zone.....
and 15 knots on the inside flats.....
but once I hit the reefline, the wind cooked.

If poleys could only elevate their sails up 20 metres or so, then they'd feel the juice.
*Maybe longer masts.
Surface friction really affects windspeed.

Ok Here's the problem....

From the location of these stations its seems likely that:

Melville Waters readings will be spot on for Crawley. It will be too optimisic for Melville Beach during Southerly winds, but is more accurate as the wind swings West, and will be accurate for W to WSW

Mandurah readings will be too pesimistic for Avalon and the Estuary during anything that doesnt have some Northerly component (just about 99% of the time) but will be accurate if the wind swings North. In particular, for Southerlies and Easterlies, Mandurah readings could easily be pesimistic by 10 knots or more.

Hey Laurie - any chance of posting up maps like this with the locations of other wind stations that the seabreeze site uses around the country? Maybe as a clickable link from each states page under the forecast, synoptic chart links etc?

I find a similar thing - come home after winds real average only to see 18-22kts + on the seabreeze site when I get home !! Perhaps knowing the location of the station would let dudes put in 'fudge factors' to allow for geographic location.
