Yes I know I should do a search, but ...
Anyone got any advice on:
- area to stay
- time of year
- hotels (with wife and kid)
- where to kite
- any good?
Thanks

Fantastic choice of destination darlin'. The island is surrounded by reefs, and the water is warm, shallow and calm (and crowded) unless a cyclone is in the area. I was there for 4 weeks in febuary a few years ago - the weather was a constant 25-30 degrees with brilliant sushine and light breezes - 10-15knots - every arvo. The only time I saw surf or stroger winds was when a cyclone hit the nearby-ish island of Rodrigez (4 days of crappy weather). The further south you go, the better the beaches are - up around Troix au Biches the beaches are long, super narrow and super crowded; further south around Le Morne, the beaches are wide, long and a lot less crowded. The island is tiny, so you can easily hire a car and drive somewhere different each day from your hotel. Beachcomber hotels are pretty good for families, and there is plenty for wifey and small child to do while you're out gettin' wet. The locals are great (even the french ones!), the public transport is great, everything is great! Take big kites and lots of money

Stay in Le Morne, one of the best spots on the island for kiting. There are a couple of resorts situated at Le Morne but not much else. You will need a car or to catch the bus of terror to get to any shops etc. The resorts there are fully catered anyway. I worked there for 6 months a couple of years ago and from memory may was a good month for wind? Dont quote me on that though. Its great to just jump in a car and explore all the way around, you can drive around it in a day easy. But you wont beat the kiting at Le morne, or the surf at tamarin bay(spelling?) Look out for irrate locals wanting to keep THEIR spots to themselves. They are worse than here!
