Greetings all,
Finally found the missing link to the sporting gap.I'ts bad enough I give the guys the sh$ts at work during Winter with the, "snowboarding bug", and the rest of the year the complaining when the wind is blowing, because of the "remote control aeroplane bug".
Now I've been infected with the, Kite Surfing bug. "holly bat****,Batman",feel like I've won a trifecta.

Winter-Snowboard

No Wind- Remote aeoroplanes

Wind- Kitesurfing

I've come to the conclusion "THERE IS GOD" and you can attian the,"holly grail".
"Life just keeps gettin better",

Hope to see ya on the water, well I'm taking lessons at the momment, so you all may be on the water,I think for the next month or so I'll be more under it,than on top. Aaaaaahhhhhhh,to make like a seal and to be dragged all over the bay.Fundamentally there is something wrong with that,so why am I so excited. "Oh I remember,I need help"

MUST take pill,need nap,ZZZzzzzzzzzz

Regards Steve

Yeah, you won't be flying planes for much longer cos you'll be able to fly yourself real soon.

Enjoy the summer.

Perth sports portfolio;

Summer am
Light Easterly Wind (offshore) = surfski on the ocean
Strong Easterly Wind = Kiting on the river

Summer pm
South West Wind (Seabreeze) = Kiting river or ocean

Winter
North West Wind = Kiting
No Wind + Waves = surfing
No Wind + No Waves = golf

Spring

No Wind + Waves = surfing
No Wind + No waves = surfski, cycling,

(Autumn = time to focus on work and family!)

Thanks for the reply guys. Mr plow,I noticed your from Melbourne.I work a pm shift starting at 2.oo pm Mon-fri and from browsing through these forums this could be "a big bummer" as far as kite surfing goes.I could rip down to the bay in the mornings, but how often is the wind up in the am?
Hhhmmmm,and I'm starting to think,"Model what"?.

"Aaaagggghhhh BUGGER",Thanks for that,NOT. I thought that might be the answer.I'm looking at buying a 12 mtr kite first, then possibly a 8 and 14-15 to gain a basic quiver. This shift is not going to change for a while,so taking this into consideration,it's looking as if the 14-15 should be the purchased before an 8 for my second kite.
I've got lessons Sat-Sun and will run this by the instuctor, but any advise or comments are appreciated.

The chimp is talking bollocks

Fair enough for the afternoon seabreeze - but in Melb often the predominant kiting wind direction in summer is northerly. The only beach that really works for this close to CBD is Brighton - but not for anything with east in it.

The best spots to kite a northerly (which is usally best early as possible in the day before the inversion effect & the seabreeze starts pushnig into it - are Bellarine/Geelong i.e. Portarlington/Pt Henry - or Mornington Pen i.e. Rosebud/Rye.

If you are kiting the afternoon convection seabreeze then St Kilda will have the strongest breeze 'coz its closer the asphalt of the city - but as you will see from my earlier posts on the subject - St Kilda is a crappy kite spot.

i've only been to melb kiting once, yes st kilda is not very good.

but im pretty sure that northerlies aren't the predominent direction.

And who doesnt want to score the sweet seabreeze action in the warm afternoon????

Well I kite here a bit more often than you

Typically in Melb you get the hot northerlies for a few days - then the "cool change" where it goes from 40 to 20 in an hour...these are usually southwesterly to westerly and gusty as all hell. Then you may get a day of respite with any wind direction and then the northerly cycle kicks in again.

I will be able to watch it MUCH more closely this summer as I wont be working & am moving to the beach to get real close to the action. My memory tells me that Nov & Dec are the best kiting months for seabreezes....time will tell.

"Who's a naughty chimp then". I'm starting to think that once I'm past the learning stages, the 2.00 pm work thing may be a pain in the ar$e weekdays.

Thanks Mr Plow, I can take the noose down from the garage now.

Andris, you've got the formula.........but the FN sharks are everywhere and the garbage and needles and stone fish and sea snakes and manic suburban housewives in cars and morons and sea lice and spiders and snakes and too much sun and filthy water and dead sea gulls.......the list goes on and on. Got to move north...more wind too.
