G'day,
I am going up to visit my old man at Moffit beach (I think its near Coloundra??) for a week at the end of July. I have never been there before so I don't know what to expect.
Can anyone suggest some good spots to kite in the area? (you know, what beaches for specific wind conditions..)
Thanks for your help!

G'Day Burgs,
Are you kidding me? Forget the kites, Moffat has the best right hand point break for a mini mal I've ever surfed. SICK!
If you want to kite, go to the river mouth at caloundra and keep well out into the mouth away from the swimming areas as the life guards are pretty pissed with kiters thanks to a few Slingy team riders a year ago. No names mentioned.
Otherwise hoof it up to Maroochy river mouth or Noosa River mouth (tide must be running out for all of these locations to work at all) Otherwise you can check out Sunrise Beach for some wicked beachies to smack. Keep an eye on the currents and rips on this beach It can make life hard, but fun.
Hope this helps and don't forget your mini mal!

I grew up in Caloundra next to Moffat Beach.
Moffat beach itself faces ne so not to good this time of year.
It has rocks up to the headland and would be a pretty narly
place to kite as it gets deep quickly from the beach.
It was a narly place to hang glide let me tell ya!
I want to kite there one day though!
Dickey Beach is the next one north from Moffats and is only like 5mins walk along the beach away.
Head up past the shipwreck and rocky outcrop and your in between dickey and currimundi beach at a place everyone calls Anne Street.
This beach takes se-ne and goes for like 10km right up to point cartright at mooloolaba - kiting is possible anywhere along here.
Caloundra rivermouth isn't really a river mouth but a passage between Bulcock beach Caloundra and the northern tip of Bribie island.
Awesome spot to kite but you get a strong tidal current which is great in the right conditions. It faces se really but apparently the guys have kited there in sw wind aswell which would be a bit gusty I reckon.
We are getting s-sw-w-nw wind at the moment so kiting is a bit sad
and varied. We have a secret little spot that absolutely goes off in a s-sw but it is 1hr drive from caloundra.
I live in Brisbane now and we have all directions covered down here but the wind is all up north at the moment.
I'm taking time off at the end of the month too and will hopefully be heading to Rainbow beach /Fraser island (2hrs north of caloundra) which has good spots for all directions but a bit sharky in places.
Hope you get a kite!
