Hello

I am from Norway and me and my australian girlfriend are going to move to australia near sydney in august.

I want to find a flat to shear near a surf and kite spot.

Where is the best places to look for flats?
www.gumtree.com.au
www.flatmatefinders.com.au/

Others?

And where is the bes places to live?

I can't wait to move, and I am practice my Austrailien ;-)

Is there something spesial I must bring?
Like a big knife to KILL sharks when kiting ;-)

Yes,we all strap these types of knives to our legs ,or arms.

When a big shark grabs you,it is important to not to worry about your kite.Just let it go.
The best thing to do then is to stab the shark straight in the top of the head. This should kill it instantly. If not, repeat untill it lets go.

Shin guards are also a good idea, these prevent stingray barbs from penitrating the lower leg area. Stainless steel are best as the don't rust.

the most important thing when you come over, is to stay as far away from an internet connection as possible. That way you don't get the pointless ramblings on this site resulting from the crap winter windless days.

honestly plan to stay somewhere temporarily and when you kite around sydney im sure if you ask around you'll find other kite freaks that will be looking for flatmates. Just take a precaution that when you get to know them ...you pad in Norway is going to be a place to crash when they come around Europe.

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

It is good that you have some kind of humor down under

Ok will bring bouth lether pants and also my stainless steel pants, for the sharks. Also bring my big whale harpun which I kill whales for fun in norway. It will prob work on sharks.

And then litlebit serius:

Tempratur in August, bout water and air.
Wind?
What kites sizes do you use in your winter (Norways summer have 25C now)

Spots around Sydney??

Any other flat shear internett sites?

Good places to sell and by stuff, like kites, diving equipment, suf equipment ++++

How about someone (from Sydney) being a welcoming Australian rather than a smart-ass Australian and actually help the guy?
(Like you would expect someone from Norway, or Hawaii, or Bali, or wherever to be if you put a similar post on their local forum)

Its un-australian not to be a smart arse, aussies have the most sarcastic humor in the world. An american would punch you if you acted normally, that is, giving them sh1t constantly.

Welcome to Australia mate, most of us are nice, but like anywhere there are the usual dickheads.. Have fun.

To answer one of your questions, its warmer here, summers will have days over 40, probabily an average of 30-35, you can get away without a wetsuit in sydney in summer. In melbourne, summer seabreeze's are usually 15-25 knots (I have 13m kite for 90 kg rider), I'm not sure but i think sydney gets about the same, maybe a local could help..

Cheers

watch out for the Sugar Gliders aswell, especially the male ones. They seem to mistake our kites for their female mates and tend to attack them, ripping them up and leaving a mess aswell. Thats why i use PossumRush possum reversal spray.

To assist with your English I suggest: "It is Australian to be a smart-ass"

Anyway, no dramas with smart-ass responses, just thought that perhaps being Australian also included helping the bloke with his query.

No, nothing about kites here. Basically it is just a forum of spell-checkers, smart-arses, and people who don't have time to go kiting as they spend too much time undertaking all of the above. (This is sarcasm)

Don't worry, in person we are much more helpful.

If I was from Sydney, I would try and be more helpful however. Perhaps one tip would be to dump your Sydney girlfriend and come to Perth/WA instead - the conditions are much better

Enjoy your stay (if you are still coming!)

Mate, we are having a bit of fun with you. Thats the way we are with foreigners that seem to think we all run around in King Gee shorts, which are too small yelling "Crikey! Look at the teeth on that"

( Of course as soon as you leave ,thats what we do !)

The thing is,we are very friendly, and you won't have any problems once you get here.

August in Sydney is mostly Westerlies, and the best place to be is on the South side of Sydney, where you can sail flat water. But a month or so later ,Spring starts and then there is good surf kiting on the Northern Beaches,or good flatwater on South side in Botany Bay and surf at Cronulla-Wanda

The best place to live is on the Northern Beaches for surf.

I don't know about the flat situation from the internet.

Personally I would turn up,find some short term accomodation, maybe in a backpackers, have a look around and then settle. You can look in the local papers for share accomodation.

The site you have listed looks OK.
Most couples here don't share, but have their own flat.

Any questions,post here,just don't mention Sharks (or Crocs,etc.!)

We really DON'T want you killing any of them !

He he I can promise that I am not going to kill anything when I am down under.

I am just going to kite, surf and dive, while my girl is going to work. Just quit my job in Norway, and now I going to take a looooooong holliday. But first I am going to take my auisssie girl (Not skippi) for a trip around Norways westcoast to see the fjords, and waterfall
