I know it has been suggested before but nothing has ever eventuated. Due to possible bans I think it is now time we all made an alliance and meet up once a month to talk kitesurfing and watch kitesurfing DVD's as a part of a local kitesurfing club.

Caloundra has one I think Noosa may but its time we start one. I was thinking of trying to do something in a local pub but sunseeker reminded me of the fact that there will be several people under 18 who would also like to join. So if anyone could think of a Venue that has a screen (preferablly large) with a DVD player, A good sound system and space for us kitesurfers then reply to this post. We can also talk about sign designs for local beaches, lifesaver training for dealing with outa control kites, techniques for hardcore moves, cable ski park nights ect... Nothing will be official, there will be no el-presidente or treasurer ect, maybe a couple of dollars brought on the night to hire a venue (provided it even costs anything) and yourself. Please reply with the following details.

a) A name for the club
b) A venue
c) A date we could do it... I was thinking like the last thursday evening of the month.

Also those who have already started a club (That includes you Dave in Caloundra) If you could offer any advice about starting one id love to hear it. Maybe we can have competitions/races against you in the future .

If people do wish to join message me your details i.e.
name
msn address (optional)
email
phone
Ill start compiling a list of contacts.

Thats a fantastic idea Mick. Well done. You have my full support and I will be happy to sponsor some of your events. I already have 5 team riders in that area so I am sure they will be interested in joining in the fun. Put me down as your first member

As for Surf Club training, let me know what what you arrange with the clubs. If any of them wish to have assistance, get their CTO to contact me. I wil be happy to go up and train the guys one wkend or during the week regarding kites rescues. I have trained a fair few in windsurfing rescues. I am a SLS instructor and examiner.

As for venue, wouldnt your house be most suitable mate - Free tab, dvd player, free food.....

I agree Echostorm, but lets add the Noosa crew in on it and crank up the volume, cause I'm stuck between everyone and more candles burning makes for a greater glow!we could start by us 'nothern enders', a show of arms at the freestyle titles next month at Happy Valley, and yes starting up a social gathering sounds good, couldnt be a prob as most of us would be in a short distance from a meeting place, which is the next objective, maybe print some tee shirts with a good logo on it to show our solidarity...Roo

Isn't there already a Noosa club??? I thought there was but if there isn't bloody hell we would need a hall to accommodate all these people. Well if you live in Noosa and there isnt a club then by combining our forces we can work at banning/shamming teaching to body drag in the Noosa River Mouth, if that isn't a reason to join i dont know what else is. I need more suggestions for a venue though and if people can get there pen and paper start drawing ideas for logos. I am an ex-graphic designer by trade so I can convert your drawings and ideas into a digital logo we can use for a t-shirt. Maybe we can get them for free if one of our nice local shops puts there sponsorship logo on it

Hey Mick

There is a Gold Coast Club - check the SEQKA forum.
The Skeggs Scott is the one that you are thinking of - he was on our downwinder on Tuesday.

Maybe we should organise a downwinder or rivermouth session for Saturday the 10th of Feb - or Sunday the 11th either day depending on the wind etc.

Looks like we'll be getting some SE's kicking in now which will obviously determine the direction of the DW

Gold Coast club yea mate thats my dislexia kicking in, I meant to type Noosa Club. Perhaps if there are that many people joining we should just make it Sunshine Coast Kitesurfing Club. Thats if the Caloundra boys dont mind? Do you Dave?

Also can people PM me there mobile/name/email?

why dont we all join in one big sunny coast club. noosa, perigian, coolum, maroochydore, kawana and caloundra. one big happy family with a ****load of members. we could have seperate meetings etc. but when it comes to banning we will have an army of us rather than a few locals.

Some great ideas there guys - sounds like we're getting somewhere here.

OK let's organise a downwinder next weekend on the 10th. We need to have a DW then a BBQ afterwards, unless it's really E then a rivermouth session will be the go.

I suggest either a BBQ in Mudjimba or Coolum - Coolum is probably more central...

What do you guys reckon - Echostorm, maybe start a new thread called -

Just a heads up on an incident on Sunday 4 Feb.

I was just finishing a downwinder at Sunrise beach at about 2.30 when I noticed a kiter in the middle of the bathing area retrieving his board, standing amongst the other bathers. Initially I could not believe what I was seeing!! The local lifegaurd jumped out of his ute and ran to talk to the kiter.

I quickly landed my kite to my girl friend aand by this time the kiter had been spoken to and was walking away (south) from the bathing area. I ran over to the kiter and realing that he could not possibly of been local asked where he was from? - France, and your name is? Hugo.

I asked how he ended up in the bathing area? No speak english was his reply.

I then attempted to explain that he should stay well away from the bathing area - he just kept saying he did not understand. I ended up drawing in the sand and wrote 400m in the sand and asked him to stay well away as he could get kiting a bad name.

I then went over and chatted to the lifegaurd and apologised on behalf of Hugo. While this was happening my girlfreind noticed him and his 2 freinds laughing so I quess he thought it was funny.

A few minutes after while I was returning to pack my gear he had his rasta (dreadlocked) friend piggy backing him while trying to jump on the beach, 50m upwind of the flags.

Anyway , keep an eye out for Hugo who was flying a white and blue Fone hybrid.

And just a few suggestions:

It might be worth distributing a few flyers with kiting guidelines to the local backpackers on the coast as well as the local kite shops as it is near impossible to self regulate 12 km of beach.

Hugo also mentioned something about no signs prohibiting kiting so perhaps work with the lifegaurds to put a few signs up at the entrances to the beaches.

Whilst I dont live on the Sunshine Coast I have family in the area and really value kiting the Coolum to Sunshine beach stretch.

I hope to meet more of you local at the BBQ next weeked.

Cheers

Ian

Thanks for that Ian, you did the right thing by approaching the guy and telling him off - if we all have this approach to people doing the wrong thing, we stand a better chance of keeping kiting safe and not banned on the Sunshine Coast.

Hope to see you at the BBQ.
Cheers

Either that or tie their nuts up with your 5th line and then do a hot launch straight up through the power zone thus rendering them not able to breed more selfish idiots...[}:)]

I met some clown 2 weeks ago asking questions, tall lanky with dark hair with a french accent. Hey has anybody else noticed there's getting to be more and more guys turning up at Coolum.
Wevé also had an incident with another clown (and you know who you are) set up his kite downwind 5mtrs from the flags at Peregian. Does a beach start with his bow and the kite proceeds to circle violently down the beach over the lifeguards 4x4 and into a set of people lying on the beach. I tried grabbing one of the lines and nearly ripped my finger off. So you can say I wasn't happy. One of the boys appologised to the clubbie, sent him down the beach, noticed him again trying to land it on the beach (16-18knts)still having problems, I wasn't in the mood helping or going anywhere near him.

I just want to say thanks to the energex boys in the chopper as 18mths ago I lost me board in the surf and the boys circled around and pointed to where my board was, hey they could of kept going but they didn't.
I love doing downwinders and as my brother came up from the Coolie to say that the boys have ban together to help boost the club and to cool things down at the alley. There's news that a sign (Ban) is going to be erected at the alley also some heat with guys going thru the flags at currumbin.
That's somethin we don't want here@#. The lifeguards are there for a reason and all of them I found to be down to earth but soon someone is going to abuse it.
I support the boys setting up a club as I missed the one last month at the goldie, I heard some of the noosa boys went.
And to Josh & boys thanks for all the work you put into the downwinder Öff th Lip" Classic, keep it up!!

i agree, when your out kiting with all your mates the last thing that is on your mind is some stupid idea that our local shops arnt getting any support. bottom line is the shop is a business and if they cant do well on their own then they shouldnt be in the business in the first place.
