I have been kiting for about six months. I am currently riding a Stonker TT. I have been deliberating over getting a Mutant of some sort.

I predominately kite in the sea and enjoy the surf and looking to improve in wave riding.

I have done some research into mutants and responses have been mixed. Generally Mutants are technically harder but once an accomplished rider they expand your riding skills however TT’s are great fun and are versatile in all situations.

In the end it would be down to personnel preference. To all the kiting veterans, what boards give the most fun

Hey after 4 years of riding tts all shapes and sizes and a lot of mutants , and directional's , i went out at Lanno on Saturday in my 17m fuel. The wind was super light and im 100kg. No one could get going... so i pulled out one of my school boards that is 6'10 4 fin delta directional , and was cruising staying up wind. The first few gybes were pretty wobblie , but i got dialed in to them .I must have done more than 50 , and came off less than a half a dozen times, it was cool , i felt more like a wind surfer , lining up my turns and moving around on the board. I recomend wax in the midle of the board if you want to ride more agressivly , i found with short tacks i had my feet out of the straps, as often as i had them in. Even a bit of wax in front of the front straps is a good idea when it is superlight wind . you will be suprised how light you can get going by moving forward a little bit.
The next day i went out on a thin 150 mutant delta surf , a little more powered up to my suprise i gybed it straight away!
Now i think the grab handles restrict your foot movement ím gonna replace my grab handle with wax so i can gybe my 144 x 35cm delta wave ,I cant wait maximim board control, I can have my big wave fins at the back of my board all the time when im wave riding, sick
at the end of te day all the boards are cool and work ,
its how you use them

yeh i got a big airush directional for light days and it rocks. get goin with my 11.5 in buggar all wind and can stay upwind with the big twinfins. riding toeside is pretty easy with it too.
only problem is it pokes thru the back to the front of the car and is annoying.

Mutants for me amplify the surfing sensation within kitesurfing. The longer rail, back fin set up resemble the bottom turn feeling you would have while surfing. As choicey tunes, gybing , changing the feet and even tacking the board is a great vibe that are in fact increasing your board skills. Well worth the extra effort in learning.

ID LIKE TO SEE THESE NEW MUTANTS THAT WILL JAMES N THE LIKES ARE USING.
MUTANTS AT AROUND 120-125 LONG. WOULD BE SIC AS THEY WOULD HAVE THE BENEFITS OF THE FIN & ROCKER SETUP OF SURFSTYLE BOARDS BUT WITH THE LITENESS AND SHORTNESS OF A TWINNIE TO THROW AROUND.
U WOULD HAVE TO STAY ONE STANCE I SUSPECT AS GYBING SOMETHING THIS TINY WOULD BE A MISSION.
EITHER THAT OR JUST DO A BOARD-OFF FLIP EACH TIME U CHANGE DIRECTIONS.
AS THAT SIZE WOULD BE AN EASY FEAT ANYWAY.
