I think the sport neeeds local competitions to get new people interested.
I, for one, would help and sponsor a local Newcastle comp. I know alot of the councellors and think it would go off.
If not held in Newcastle, there are a few good spots up the coast that have great access.
I could get news coverage...twould be fantasmo.
I know it takes a lot of work(and usually one or two people are lumbered with all of it) but I recon it can work for all areas.

Lets get onto it.

Hey Tone,

The Mid North Coast Kiteboarders, club just forming, would love to get some competitive and social events happening with the Newcastle Kiteboarders this summer and local comps will be a great key to progression and understanding of this great sport.

Lets make it happen.

Cheers

Glen

newscastle... how about something non-official tomorrow at squids we run a trial kite accross?
the markers are allready there, well just have no obstactle for this one but still be able to get a result... Ive talked to council bout it before, waterways dont mind cause noone else uses that bay so long as we don't claim exclusive use we need not ask any more, and so long as it's not an official event, council don't need an event form submitted.

I seem to remember Missy organised one last year in about Nov I think, and there was a really good response (just no wind!). It was at nobbys, which seemed good because there was a lot of room up the top for launching and sitting etc.

Sounds like a good idea - there aren't many local comps around here for some reason.

We ran an event based on the Mambo concept at Anna Bay back in 2000 .It was a huge hit .loose format judged by all and included sportsmanship award .It would be great to do it again as a club thing that anyone who is interested from anywhere would be more than welcome to come to .It would be great to have a wave ,freestyle and boardercross component.name a date and it's done.!

Hey Lachlan...I recon Anna Bay's the best spot, loads of room and easily accessable by 4x4's.
I'll put up some prizes and I'm sure others will too.
Best days would be not too close to xmas as it gets very busy up there.
I recon we could get this up and running!

Agreed .OK i'll put up $500 credit at kiteworks for the encouragement award .
Now to find a date .Will be tricky!lots on from mid Nov .Possibly Early Dec before the crowds or after jan when the wind is generally very reliable.Say over 3 days Fri -Sun.

O... Early December sounds good too, but it may be too soon for a decent run at organising it....
I recon january could be a more reasonable prospect.
But I'm easy...I'll help where possible.

When we did the 2000 event it was really loose and people really liked the loose format(this type of thing is very popular with everyone who just likes to catch up with everyone and have a blast )basically all we did was name the dates and say 'see ya there ".The only organising we did was a whip around for prizes ,a big party house ,the dates and a morning get together for a BBQ brekkie and to decide the likely spot to go and ride .if there is a boarder cross component this would be alot more organising (and everyone runs for cover when you ask for helpers, and then when everything is dragged around and set up the wind doesn't blow this kind of answers stinky's question of why not so many local events )

cheers

Guy's

Sorry to rain on your parade, but the wind direction for the proposed dates is generally NE which at Birubi/Anna Bay is directly off shore and badly affected by the headland. Birubi does work very well however in everything from a Westerly around to a South-Easterly.

yep thats right and if it is fingal bay is a 10-15 min drive, and if it is NW Baggies and conroy are a 10 min drive, and west to east works on birubi .This is what we experienced in 2000 and we didn't miss a day.

Hey Tone,

I tried to organise something last Nov, however the wind didn't show. I'm very keen to do it again and maybe some kind of East Coast Tri Series, including Sydney, Newcastle and Mid North Coast guys and organise events at each location.

Drop me an email and we will chat.

Hey how are ya,

I'm not much of an organiser, but I can help people where ever possible...I think if we can get some dates organised, Lachlan would know enough people to get attendance up to a great level..
I recon Lach's idea of an easy/loose session is great and from his experience, I recon he'd know best.

I will try to get in contact with the coucellors I know up there to get permission(as soon as a dateline has been set).

Can we get some support from the mid coasters? and maybe some more local people/businesses to commit to some prizes.

The more upfront expressions of interest will determine whether this can be viable or not.

Personally I think the boardercross is a great idea and is more likely to get responses from a wider ground than a normal comp and it would be good to see these types of comps organised more regularly. The nice thing with boardercross is you can put a lot of people on the water at the same time, and you can split into classes if you need to for prizes.
