Hi Newcastle crew,

I might need to say goodbye to WA and g'day Newcastle ().

However, part of my decision will be made based on wind conditions in Newcastle.

But I had some difficulties to find accurate information on the internet regarding typical seasonal wind strength and direction in Newcastle. So I thought I'd better directly ask the concerned persons who are doing the best sport in the universe

Could you please help me out by suggesting some web sites or providing the above information?

Thanks all!

Fred

If you are used to kiting lots STAY WHERE YOU ARE.

I have a normal weekday job & knock off about 5ish and have only got about 1 or two sesions a month for the last three or so months.

Some guys who knock off work earlier, have flexible hours or shift workers can often get more time on the water.

But we always seam to be talking about the SH!T wind lately

Ric, Thanks a lot for the input. If I move there, I will have a normal weekday 8am to 5pm job...

Mr Float, I've just found a great link (windguru) from your website.

This link gives wind speed and direction thoughout the years...
OH DEAR! It seems that kitesurfing on the East Coast is not the same sport that I know here in WA!! I can not see much wind over 20 knots!!! What am i going to do with my 7 m and recently acquired 10 m (FS)!?!? That s a major psychological shock for me... I think I need to reconsider my plans of moving...

Additionnal personal input and local opinions about wind strength, direction and seasonal patterns in Newcastle are still very welcomme!

Thanks!

Mr Float and Tonewolf,

At which beach is encountered THE NAZZI???

Based on the little information i managed to gather about Newcastle, I think that my prefereed spot will be the Ocean at Stockton (if the prevalent wind conditions are ok there...)

Regards,

Fred

stockton is a great spot and usually gets the best wind in all on shore conditions during summer .The wind is not as strong as WA but is doable most days during summer if you have a nice flat board and a kite that goes in light winds .The wave riding is very good .With a normal summer seabreeze you can start in the bottom corner next to the break wall and do a few tacks up to the ADOLPHE (See those NAZZZZZIS once again)
wreck and tack right across the bay to the mental hospital and then dowwnwinder down the break for about 2 km.Very nice and not as crowded as Nobbys .

Cheers

Seems to be good in the summer and not much in the winter. We moved here two years ago and both summers were pretty windy, but not normally over 20kts. I would say I got maybe 4 days out of 7 during the summers. I am almost always on a 12 or a 10, say goodbye to the 7!.

Last winter was windier than this one - more westerlies, although this winter has had more southeasters I think. They are both pretty **** winds in my opinion so I tend to find other things to do over the winter. Westerlies too gusty and soueasters too light. Last summer we started kiting in about Sept in the noreasters, a few days every couple of weeks and built up from there.

Hey Fver,

You will encounter the Nazzi probably on the first couple of days that you get to Nobby's Beach...He recons he owns the beach so beware!
I usually stick to Stockton or I've got my own special spot where I'm the only person to kite(I've only ever seen 2 more people there).
AND NO NAZZI!!

Let me know when you get here and I'll have a session with ya.
Tonewolf.

Hmm, I'm not sure about this Nazi person. Things always seem pretty relaxed at Nobbys to me. I've just been out for a session today actually and there was no sign of swastikas, silly moustaches etc.

Iv'e been kiting at nobbies for years, and don't know anyone owning the beach, and have never been hassled.
It's a great place, but it's good to find out the local rules so as to keep the place open for kite surfing

If you were below the second walkway you might cop the wrath of the surf patrol - most of the time there's a sign there in the summer, but I don't think it's there at the moment. I wouldn't call them Nazis though because they are LOVELY. And they might have to save me one day.

You said you go out at Stockton though, which is pretty good too, and I don't think there's any restrictions there.

Mate, nobbies is a freindly place- lets keep it that way.
We (newcastle kiters) do our best not to blow it with the life guards and subsequently the council. If any-one was informing guest kiters, as to their obligations for this beach, labelling them would seem foolish, and naive (not sure about the spelling).
