Gangster,

Nice post. Yes I guess you could say I have a vested interest. I work for Windgenuity (importer/distributor of North, Naish, Prolimit, F2, Fanatic, Mistral, NorthSails, ION, Hifly, windsurfer, ...,...) in Australia as well as being a Naish Team Rider. I must take this time to apologize to all the sponsors of Seabreeze if I have stepped a little too close to the line. The kites are just so frikken good!! And as 1 of the only 2 people in the country that has actually seen, and flown the Sigma kites, I felt it my duty to contribute in the DISCUSSION on this topic.

Once again, sorry to all the sponsors, I do value your contribution to Seabreeze.

Regards,

JB

Errrr....and you think that's a good thing ???
I want to ride powered-up on the smallest kite I can for any given windspeed.
I'd rather be the guy riding the 7m in waves,
rather than be the fellow with the fat-arse kite.
Bottom-end is what's important to me in the surf....not the opposite.

I'm with Slave on this.

Theres something wrong if you have to use a 14 when others are using 7m !
I would much rather hear it round the other way. "I was using a 7 while everyone was on 14-

I have a question for the sigma kites... they have two catch points for water now (end of the two second struts on teh leading edge) instead of one flowing curve on the leading edge (C or Bow) - if this kite goes down in the surf and you get water in the kite how on earth is it going to launch with the weight that will be trapped in it...

I can understand how you can get out of it being close to the beach but anything in deep water is going to be a nightmare - isnt it??

Leave Josh the mild mannered Chihuahua out of it... he obediantly hides in the back of my ute while kiting ready to discourage any person that even thinks of nicking my gear... if only they could see what was really in the back of the car!!!

Personally I think it will hold more water with one flowing leading edge than two second struts

Lancekelly,

You have e confused with this holding water issue? I think once you se the kite in the flesh, you will realise that there is no way the SIGMA kites could hold water anymore than a conventional C or Bow. I can only assume you are talking about when the kite is on it's back? This is not an issue, and the c shape of the kite is still there. I tried and tested relaunch in the surf many times from different angles, and it never failed, relaunch is so quick you can relaunch between waves with ease.

Now on the 14m issue, I was going to leave this alone but it seems to keep coming up. When you are an Australian importer, buying kites for condition mostly around the 15 knot mark, you need to test kites in the size your market needs. Now in Maui it Farken windy, which means at some point in time you are goikng to go out riding a kite that is way to big for the condition. Now this is not done for hero status, I have done much crazier things than this before, this point I was trying to make was the unbelievable control of the kites when depowered that much. I really do prefer to ride a the smallest kite I can get away with in the waves (which generally is still bigger than most peoples kites due to my size). To help clear up the issue, we spent 4 days testing the kites, all models and sizes from 7m, 9m, 10m, 12m, 14m. And yes there was days when guys nearly half my weight (approx. 65kg) were out on 12m kites and I was out on a 7m kite at my apparently fat gym needing (95kg), a feat equally as impressive as the reverse. So in conclusion, I guess you could say the SIGMA kite boast a much bigger comfortable wind range, more bottom end and more top end performance and still feel smooth and responsive. Now there are kites on the market that can also handle extreme wind ranges, the difference is the SIGMA can handle much greater angle of depower witrh out deforming the canopy, therefore remaining stable and smooth, when other kites have already started jerking around and reloading after minor canopy collapes.

Anyhoo, no Pimping from me, just trying to answer the questions in an discussion like manner.

I am planning on flying the Sigma Helix today at longy if I can get out of the office for an hour, so if you'd like to see it in the flesh to those of you that are in sydney, around lunch time, but I will confirm this before I go on this thread. I will also be flying the 2008 REBEL.

Pete,

It will depend on the wind weather I get wet or not, also weather it is worth even flying. I will post on here around 11 if it looks good, I'll only have about an hour, but will give people a look at the new stuff. Surf looks good, so I'd love to get out on the water. I've gotta convince the boss to let me out of the office first!

Thanks for your post cwamit, I am really looking forward to hearing some outsiders opinions on the kites, and definately hope they post them!

The winds looking pretty crap at the moment, I will have a look a bit later and see whats happening, it may go around to the south a bit more making it nicer for flying. I will let you all know before I head down.

Hi Danza,

Are you implying I do not?? LOL!

Anyhoo, Yes Rob is the fastest kiter alive! He is the South African Naish Importer. He was obviously in Maui the same time as I was for the importer meeting. His Breakdown of te kites is quite good,

Torch - World's Leading C Kite
Helix / Cult - SLE/Bow replacement :: all you would want but way better.
Alliance :: Hybrid kite with new / old school performance

But I would maybe put it a bit like this,

Torch - World's leading C kite 2007.
Helix / Cult / Code - SLE SIGMA kites, better than anything you could imagine in a bridal kite, suitable for anything from waves to hard core freestyle, learner newby to the absolute pro.
Alliance - Everything the SLE Sigma have to offer, but with all the things we loved about the Torch (slightly heavier bar pressure, super direct input, no bridals)

Puppet, Sorry to ignore your question. Your Naish dealer in Perth is S.O.S. They are very excited about the SIGMA revolution, and will be happy to try and hello you out as best they can. Kites should be in the country nearing the middle of AUGUST (HELIX only at this point), and hopefully we wil have CULT and ALLIANCE by mid September. (All eta are not official, there are always delays and shipping issues etc...)
I will be coming over to Perth in about 2 or 3 weeks to see the SOS team, and run them through the feature, design and properties of the SIGMA series. From then they will more than information to please your curious minds.

I like how Rob ended his post, "Don't even start me on the board" I would say something about them, but it may get seen as PIMPING, so i'd better not! All i'll say is that they will give you wood! Best boards ever by a long shot.

JB

Well JB I did ask you a couple questions on the Alliance and Helix and got no reply.

This thread went to **** as always on Seabreeze when a topic arises of interest. On kiteforum you can ask a question and know that your not going to get some idiot reply and ruin the topic.

Look forward to flying the new kites as the kite has generated alot of interest among the kiters down South which is good for kiteboarding.

Thanks for the reply finally and hope to see you on a beach somewhere so I can test these kites out.

Cheers

Dan

TILMANN HEINIG AT IT AGAIN!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CAUTION TEAM rider Tilmann Heinig of Kiel Germany attended the “DAYS OF THUNDER” GPS speed event in Thiessow/Rügen. Tilmann, with his 2007 ANSWER, finished first with a speed of 62 Km/h. Tilmann took the podium with second and third place competitors trailing with respective times of 54km/h and 45km/h. The GPS data indicates that Tilmann’s performance at this event appears to shatter the world kiteboarding speed record! CAUTION recognizes Tilmann’s hard work and supports him in his continuing effort to revolutionize speed kiting competitions.

Shatter the world record? 62km/h = 32 knots is under the world record.

thx for sharing. The topic is pretty clear on what it covers so no complaints there.

Question

How is the bar pressure on this? (Please not "the best ever"... suggest answering compared to say the NAISH SLE which I found heavy on 2:1 or say a North Rebel (light) 1:1 or SB2 (lightish) 1:1

The law of constraints would say something can not be the best at everything, but always happy to look at the best mix...

Given that the kite has to turn more % of kite surface area (they quote 50%), you would think there would be more bar pressure... (I have weak arms ;)

thx

JB just wondering how the 2008 rebel compares to the 2007 rebel and the Sigma kites.I'm looking at getting a new Rebel kite as it's a proven entity. If the feedback about the Sigma Kites is good I may wait until I can demo one.

You can actually order a Helix on our website, correct.
We have not yet been able to confirm prices, hence the TBA warning.
There will be a very limited number of Helix kites available later this week/early next week. They are part of the shipment from which we will get our demo kites, can't wait for them!!
Dealers will probably only have 1-2 kites to sell, until the remainer of the stock arrives by sea mid to late August.
If anyone is interested in being first kid on the block with Helix, the race is on to get into you nearest Naish dealer, or order via our wesbite, online.

Man, who cares about pimping really? The shops and team riders are going to be the first people to be able to fully test all the new gear months before all of us get to, so without them, we wouldn't find out such information till much later. Yeah sometimes the step it close to the line, but it doesn't matter. Most team riders love the kites they ride for anyway, so even without Bias, they are still going to hype up the newest kite on the range. Everyone loves the kite they ride. Lets all just chill out a bit, it's just seabreeze.
