Just got a 2010 10sqm Naish Torch which seems to oversheet/stall especially in lighter breezes (but over 12 knts). The kite drops in mid arc as I am sweeping for power and I have to depower the kite by pushing the bar away from me to get it up again otherwise it falls out the sky. i am using the out the box set up and if I cleat in the depower a fair amount it seems to help the problem a little. I am also setting it on the last knot of the yellow, 5th line so perhaps will try it a knot or two higher as greater tension on the 5th line may help. I have not had this problem on my 7 which flies sweetly.
I have heard that the 10 has this problem. Has anyone else experienced this?
I could lengthen the back lines by taking them out a couple of knots at the bar or try setting the 5th line tighter. Any other suggestions apart from going back to my slingshots?

Sounds like good old oversheeting.
Sheeting out on the up stroke is normal, and necessary especially in lighter winds. Putting tension on the 5th line will make it a little more stable but you'll end up with less power. You said pulling some depower fixes the issue, so you've more or less answered your own question.

Don't know about the 2010 Torches but they've been pretty similar since 2007. You probably are oversheeting because the out of the box setting is pretty boned up. Suggest you go longest knot on the back lines (inside the floats). The Naish manual usually states this is the rig-and-go unhooked setting (does same thing same as if you pull a little depower in) and I don't bother changing this ever. With this setting you may still have to sheet out slightly on a hard up-stroke in lighter winds.
Maybe you should have bought the 11 or 12m? I think Fuels usually have a bit more bottom end than Torches...

Thanks guys. I think that helps. Will try the 5th line tighter, but dont really want to lose power so will probably loosen out the back lines.
You're probably right about the Fuels, but I got two new torches in a trade for services I do, so they came at a good price.

the torch depower lines come too long, so just pull in some depower and cut it where its best with no back-stalling, dont pull in the 5th line

Not many kites fly well in 12knots in my opinion. Just depower the kite by 3-6inches in really light wind to stop it stalling - this is the same with most kites.

not 12 knts, "over 12 knts"
but thanks. funny that it doesnt happen with the 7, but then I've only flown that in 20+.
thanks ewan.
