Howdy,

Yes old topic, covered many times before, many variables to consider, many points of view blah blah.......so, I'll keep it brief.

- Done lessons (could just stand up by the end of 3hrs) - want gear.
- Can surf good
- Can snowboard really good
- Pretty quick to pick such stuff up.
- 95kg
- Melbourne
- Not interested in hurricane winds, but equally not interested in days where my newspaper doesn't blow off the table.

1. What gear should i be getting first up?
2. If i said i could pick up a 135cm board for cheap cheap, is it too small for me to bother with at this stage? & should i get it, how would this affect my kite choice?

Go.

Cheers, that's what I was thinking. What would be ideal for getting up & about, but not get bored on quickly then?

Hi

I weigh about the same and started on a Slingshot Key 13m Delta. Needed 18kn to get my a$$ out of the water in the beginning, now I need 16kn on a 133 board. I start to get uncomfortable at 25kn and switch to a smaller kite. Started on a 150 board, much easier to get going and upwind than with the smaller board but harder to get to turn.

Bottom line: For Melb and your size you need a big kite (min 12m) and a big board (135 could work but it is a lot harder in the beginning). Brand? Pick one you like. I started with Slingshot and like their stuff (got an RPM as well), it just does not break (at least the way I treat it)

Have fun!

Minimum 139 but a 144 be better. I got a 139 same weight as you but need a stiff breeze with a 12m

I got Slingshot Rallys and love them. Need to pump them up hard or the older models flex in tips ( for ys fat boys heavy load) get yourself a modern 12m and a 9m and you be set.

Hi ellobuddah, what year is your 12m rally and what is your lowend (to stay upwind)? I am thinking about upgrading the 13m key for something a bit faster.
Thanks!

waano, unless you have been doing a self-rescue in deep water in your lesson and body drags upwind to recover your board and water relaunch in deep water, I would suggest spending on more lessons first, then look for gear
