after owning about 7 kites in 3 years but only really one board (bar a brief affair with a waveboard and an undersized TT) I am considering replacing my beloved but well worn naish thorn tt from 2005. (135*39)

I am looking at either 2007 or 2008 Naish thorn (134*40) (I loved my 2005) or a similar size and shaped board from cardboards.com which is priced between the 07 and 08 naish.

Firstly, am I wasting my money, ie is having a nice new smooth board going to run better? will the more modern shapes improve my enjoyment, skill, controll etc?

If I go for the cardboards, I think I would go middle stiffness (mid of the road), smaller fins (easier switching and turning) and a wider stance setting for the feet so that you ride lower down and more stable....?

any comments are appreciated (useful ones :) )

hawaii,

Give dan at Cardboards a call. Let him know your stats, style of riding you prefer what you want out of your board huge pop, skatey feel, soft flex etc.... he will certainly be able to assist you in getting on the right board.

Failing that I have found that just changing the fins and or stance ( duck style works well for me )on a board can really change its performance and feel, efectively giving it a whole new lease on life.
I may be going a bit too far but I have even used sandpaper on my edges and any scratches to try to make the base and rails smoother after a few knocks.

IMO just get the Cardboard you will feel all warm and fuzzy the first time you head out with a new one.

Hi Hawaii,

We have 10+ boards available to Demo. Drop in and try a few - at least you will get an idea of how different shapes, constructions and flex patterns suit your style of riding.

you'd be surprised how much different a more modern board can be, over Christmas i upgraded from a 2004 north dragon (138*40) to a 2008 liquid force recoil (130) and the difference is awesome, im a pretty average rider but it had made shifting my weight heaps easier as well as edge control. not trying to pimp my board or anything, i just highly recommend getting a more modern board.
