Hi there,
just got my 4th hour lesson today and am going to do more practice with body dragging at Currumbin before I try to get on the board. Are there any other newbies out there who want to get together?
Cheers.

Cheers mate. I was thinking actually going north just beside the alley on the long beach, I don't know if it's still Currumbin or Palm Beach but that's a safest option for me and I saw a few kites there yesterday.
Have a gr8 day too

"I was thinking actually going north just beside the alley on the long beach"

yeh mate thats the best option - when it's crowded u wont want to be learning directly IN the alley as you'll only be dodgeing other kiters the whole time and could end up on the beach amoungst the public beach goers - not good.

the north side of the groyne is nice n safe with plenty of room.

Thanks for the constructive comments. Another thing I have to ask, is there any webcam we can check before driving kms for nothing, it was looking good this morning and the forecoast was ok but I drove from Currumbin to Broadwaters for nothing as there was no wind...I know it didn't look good when I was driving but I was hoping so much to get in the water... well there will be other days...

ps: Well I managed to go at 4.30pm between Burleigh and Palm Beach where I met some friendly k-surfers and went for a bit of practice in the water...I've drunk at least 3 cups of sea ( bring me my stubby!!) so I might try next time broadwaters where there is no waves

Hi Surfnet,

I suggest keeping ot the flat water when learning on the board. You will learn a lot quicker somewhere like the broadwater without chop and sideshore sweep to deal with. Just body drag out to the sandbank and practise out there and ride or body drag back. Someone will be there to catch your kite or just release safety over the water and wind it in. Currumbin has always been for the more advanced riders esp when waves are bigger, when its too busy in estuary with other more exp kiters, or when there are too many bathers. Tobes

Hi Tobes,
Yep I went last Sunday at the broadwater, did a bit of body drag and tried my board, lol, was too funny to watch for sure but I managed to stand first time for at least 2 seconds Just b4 I made a funny comments on water boots and guess what, a few minutes later I cut the heel of my foot in the water and had to go to the clinic to remove 15 little pieces of shell + had a shot against tetanus!!
Anyway it makes sense to learn first on flat water (who is thinking that's the same with women)

Hey Surfnet

Definately wear boots while you are learning in the Broadwater. You will spend plenty of time walking around recovering your board, relauanching your kite and walking back upwind until your skill levels increase.

There are plenty of dic*heads who throw bottles and other rubbish into the water near Parks. Also there are sharp stones, sticks and oysters waiting patiently to penetrate your tootsies.

I used boots for about a year but don't need them any more. Glad I did as many fellow learners sustained some nasty cuts from time to time.

yep bodydragging around in the broadwater is great, just send the kite when you see some shadow or else approaching, it does wonders to your learning curve !

and walking in the murky shallows is full of surprises too, I swear the other day it felt as if I stepped on a dead stingray !
