Hey guys & gals, Sorry if these have been asked many times before but i couldnt find the answers i wanted.

I am a newbie at this hobby/sport from the northern beaches sydney, I have had one 2h lesson in the past (got to startign to get on teh board) and plan to have some more when uni gives me a break. I am 5 foot 6 and weigh around 75kg.

I want to know about what type of gear i would need given my area. I would prefer not to have to continuously buy new gear as i progress so i am looking for all rounder gear. Ill be looking mainly at 2nd hand due to my student fees stairing me in the face.

Kite type & size + brand/model recomendations?

^^^^^ likewise with board.

Your feedback and comments would be much appeciated.

Thankyou.

Don't know about the places you're in, but i'd be looking at a 130-145cm twin tip and a 11-13m bow kite made anywhere around 2006 or later.

most newer kites '06 onwards are made well and will last a long time.

you need to decide what type of kite you will buy.

C kite - traditional, nowdays have more depower than they used to but still have that "power always there feel" - would probably need 2-4 kites depending on your location and conditions

Bow/hybrid kite - tend to be most popular(not necessarily better) as they have huge wind range and depower and you could get away with one
9-13m kite depending on the regular conditions.

Mattress/doona() kite - they get a bit of a bashing, but appear to be having more of resurgence and again are very safe and have huge wind range(especially light winds) NOTE: you will regularly have your sexual orientation questioned so you might need to get a thicker skin or ignore people.

Go to your local spots where you plan to kite and watch what the other guys use. Ask around, maybe some of them have gear they want sold and remember your first set of gear will probably get bashed to f*ck while you learn so sometimes cheaper used gear is a better idea.
