Yesterday I was kiting off John St., Bilinga (very light wind under 10 knots) when I spotted a blue shirted fluro vested person walking down the beach waving me in. I get in and he tells me I can’t kite there or within 3 km from the airport. He was from airport security ID tag and all and said to me that he was told to call the police, but just came down himself to get me to come in. I told him calling the cops was not necessary. There was another kite up at that time further south towards North Kirra. I asked him about that kite and he said it was sort of ok. He said
no kiting flying from that area
north to Currumbin. I have seen kiters out at Gibson St. from time to time and he told me they have been warned off too. The lifesavers were asked about this and according to them it was ok as long as no one kites through the flags. Any one else been told not to kite in that area?
