i have no idea where you are talking about but why would a rifle range be shooting into the sea? it just sounds kinda wierd that you cant go kiting.
p.s. cant you just go past it out to sea then?

Swanbourne beach is in Perth, WA. The rifle range is next door to the SAS barracks, which just happens to be located adjacent to some PRIME sea side property. The range is wedged between two remarkable beaches

They fire out to sea cos if they fired inland they'd probably kill everyone instead of just a few stray kiters...

You can physically kite out 1km from shore to get past, but then you are breaking the laws that say if you go beyond 200m from shore you have to carry a life jacket, 2 flares, a sea anchor etc. Unsure of the official wording, but kiteboarders unfortunately fall under that category of craft. So technically we are all breaking the law by kiting as we usually do, as we often go 200m+ out to get upwind but they turn a blind eye to this. As you can easily tell, there is a big difference between 200m and 1km off shore regards safety etc.

So yes, Mike is spot on that all kiters need to avoid doing this this unless you have contacted the Camplbell Barracks at Swanbourne prior to check there is no shooting scheduled (as is the case for the WAKSA downwinder on Sunday 9th April).

just go 1km out around it then!!!! what you think someone will actually be bothered to be there ready to pounce and inforce the law (wether that is the law or not.) The laws for queensland and new south are completly different regarding jetskis.

just wondering how we can be classified as a craft, as our boards are so small we need to be powered to get up on them and they barely float. Anyone know what there definiton of craft is, and it is highly unlikely they will be out there although the rifle range may call marin in harbours.

I can't understand why the military can't do their shooting in the desert.........duh, not far from here. And put up some nice service housing where they are shooting now, would do lots for morale.

Seems silly, to have a shooting range where the sqm price is over 10K. But for the time being, dem's da rules I guess.

People need to know this about Swanbourne though, especially those not reading this forum. There is a huge influx of new people to WAAAAAA, and that brings more kiters who don't know the local "rules." I'm afraid that all us locals really need to introduce the new arrivals to the ins and outs of kiting in WAAAAAAAA.
