Hey,

I have heard Picknic point is the place to go in a westerly in NSW. Everytime I check the live wind readings it is around 5 knots yet Nobbys head Newcastle is 15+ and Kurnell is around the same. Is the reading statiton sheltered in a westerly or is it just really light around there in a westerly?

Thanks in advance :)

picnic point is very over rated, the wind there is very fickle. It can be blowing 20+ knots on most of the graphs on seabreeze, but will often be less than 10 knots on the shore. To even consider driving to picnic point you need the norah head graph to be showing 15- 20 knots. But really it's a crap spot to ride anyway, weedy, stinky, muddy water. The locals call it septic point for good reason.

Hi Doycle,
I live on the cental coast in frustration at the ** winds we get and cannot understand why? Both Sydney and Newcastle graphs can be going off and yep Norah Head is barely rating a mention. I work at Toukely and look over Canton Beach and can tell you that there are alot of times when the Westerlies are blowing a treat and the Norah Head graph is not registering? Not sure where the measuring station is however it does seem a little strange??

Not sure about Bennie's comment re septic as yes there is a lot of weed but it is clean and resonably shallow once you clear the shore and no real stench to speak off. He is correct however it the winds are very fickle one moment they are blowing next the kite falls from the sky. Very Frustrating. I agree in that I think lake Maquarie is a better option (off belmont) in a westerly.

If anybody can explain the lake of quality wind on the Cental Coast it would be appreciated as it is very frustrating for a newbie with limited travel time(

Summer NE/SE are fine and not disimilar to Sydney and Newcastle.

One exception is that Southerlies seem to flow through fine you see them light up Sydney then they push through the central coast..

cheers

"clean", I would not let my little girls swim in there, that lagoon is a sess pit, especially after heavy rain. Sure it has been cleaned up a bit in the last decade but it's far from clean.

The BOM wind measuring device (I can't spell anemometer) is way down on the eastern side of the headland below the lighthouse. It's suprising it reads anything at all in a westerly.
