How much does it suck?

I was at work yestrday and am happily working away and (karma hates me) the hottest waitress happens to walk in as im leaning forwards and about 2 cups of water randomly flow out of my nose from about 8 hours ago...needless to say she was scarred for life.

Anyone know of some nose plugs maybe lol?

Weirdest thing happened with me, my bro and his mate... somehow all within 5 minutes of one another we got mad nose water happening .

We'd been surfing all day, but had been outof the sea for hours, it was a synchronised event . There is definantly something that sets off though I reckon. Perhaps it's the cold? Seeing as it was one of those cold windy nights we all got it and we'd just walked outside... that would coincide with the icecream?

It really does pick inconvenient times, and I've had it happen to me the next morning even... in my uni lecture... I think I managed to hide it from the hot woman sitting next to me though ... I hope.

Where does it all live though? I'm sure I could fill a middy with the amount of random seawater that falls out of my nose some days, but how in the world does it fit in there? Commence empty skull jokes here...

I think it stores up in your sinuses.

This is a brilliant topic! Love your work INfiniDIE.
We always called it 'Nasal Drain' and everyone got it all the time, anytime after surfing.

I reckon what triggers it is the angle of your head, if you bend over with your head hanging down it will either start draining by itself, or exhale through your nose and it will start up.

I had Nasal Drain on a couple of girl friends over the years, they are lying on the beach or bed or whatever and you go in for kiss, assume a bent over attitude and 'Look out below!'. Not impressed.

I also had a doosie in a bank, I was fillling out deposit slips or whatever, leaning over again to write and out she came. I had to give the teller a soggy Bank Book and Deposit slips.

It is amazing how much there can be up there. Always feels good once it's all come out though.
Go the Nasal Drain!

Thank you, i was always wondering if i was the only one with the weird pop in my head hours after a surf and straight onto the shower scene
i actually asked my doctor and he clearly made me understand that he believed that i was full of @#$%
I retrieved in my burrow and never mentioned it again
Any one with medical back ground can explain where it is stored and how much can be there?

You really need to know???
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paranasal_sinus

They have trouble measuring the volume of the sinuses.
www.ajronline.org/cgi/content/full/176/1/241#top

I just tilt my head foward and blow my nose into a towel several times after a sess - without pinching my nostrils in any way. I guess you could always measure what comes out in a beaker!
"Once jala neti has been performed, it is important to eliminate any remaining water from the nose. The techniques may vary but it usually involves bending over from the waist to let the remaining saline solution drain out, breathing quick breaths out the nose in quick repetition, and gently blowing the nose. It is important not to close off one nostril or squeeze the nose in any way as this may cause water to be forced into areas that do not dry easily. A tissue may be used but is just held lightly surrounding the nose.

Retrieved from "en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Ethnomedicine/Home_Remedies/Saline_Nasal_Wash"
"

I, for one, think its healthy to get your nasal passages and sinuses flushed out!
(Excuse me while I use my Jala Neti.... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nasal_cleansing )

Most of the water would probably be in your frontal and maxillary sinuses, I think, sitting over a little ledge till you tip your head foward.

Incidentally, my brother, who's a doctor and poley, was at work after a sess and was putting a drip line into this old lady's arm when he leant foward and *gush*. Oops! Hardly sterile! Luckily she didn't notice!!

Hmmmn, nasal drain. Yeah, I've actually done that over my girlfriend after a long day out on the water at a time when she really doesn't want to be bathed in warm salty water from your nose... Unless she is into that sort of thing I guess...

My response was, "Ah, its only seawater, besides, you will be a lot dirtier anyway by the time I've finished with you..." [}:)]

I reckon its to do with small (even minute) changes in temperature in your sinuses, that cause pressure changes and purging. Like when you suddenly get runny noses when going from hot outside to air conned luxury.

Anyone ever used fess?? Theres nowt more satisfying...

You old smoothy you...

Yeh I reckon it's like popping youears. Something allows the bubble to pop. Leaning over straight after the water session and blowing like fk clears what seems like a litre or so out of my shnoz. If I forget i can feel the salty goodness up there for days (like today after a kite on Sunday) until an unexpected purge... I've seen some pretty stunned looks when performing this manourvre from passer-bys though. Lucky for me the sight of my beginners beer gut all crunched up has forsaken the ladies so nothing to lose really...

Hey Rosco - look on the bright side.. If she has seen this you can't fall from there so go for gold.

I have never had " nose water " i have surfed for nearly 20 years I would like to experience this just once in my life

I have had a lot of water go up my nose causing a lot of pain and stinging in the eyes ( yes nose eyes and ears are connected ) but have never been able to store water there for a period of time

surfing for twenty years and never had nose water...? have you ever been dumped or wiped out, or put your head under water... i don't believe you could surf for twenty years and never experience this... my most memorable was reaching across a resturant table to shake the hand of the father of my then girlfriend, whom i'd just been introduced to, and having a cup or so run out my nose all over the herb bread which had just been served.....

As a grommet i used to measure how much of a good session i had by how much water came out - but try and explain that to the new girlfriend.

A good case of "tap nose" just lets you know you are pushing your limits, is all...

And for the record - i've had it come out 2 days after a surf.

Nice work there Foosh, I was pretty sure it was an actual medical thingy (like stomach grumbling-Borborygmous or something) but typing in Nose Water? yeah that'll work.

hey Harry potter i think your sinuses are like an s-bend under your sink, you need to wipeout hard and head first im pretty sure, and lovey's definetly right if you have heaps of nose water it means you've been out there sending it dont it?

I get it often now but when i first got it i was packing the dishwasher after dinner with friends and they all saw the big gush from my nose. At first i thought it was a massive blood nose with all that warm water runnng out.
I can feel one coming one soon after a good session this arvo.
