Hi all,

I'm super-keen to get out and try my new (second-hand '04/05) flx 132 and have my first solo session on the kite after my two lessons over the last weekends, but the wind looks marginal tomorrow for around the Brissie area.

I have a 12m Cabrinha SB and the charts are predicting winds as light as 10 knots and up to only 14 knots (and I weight ~77kg).

Do you reckon this is going to be enough for me to at least get out and have a go at getting up and riding?

Or maybe I could at least go and fly the kite and practice body-dragging upwind some more (although I picked this up pretty quickly in my last lesson).

I *really* want to get up and riding! :)

Cheers,
Diz

Hmmm ...maybe I should have titled this here forum something different.

Feel free to reply to my question even if you aren't in the Brissie area:

Congrats on your new gear! I can understand you keen to get out and use it but kiting in marginal winds on new gear isn't always the most fun. If there's more than ~10-12 knots then definitely go out there and do a bit of body dragging and just get a feel for the kite. You can always give the board a go, but i know i wouldn't be able to get up and riding in 12 knots! The fun starts ~17 knots to be honest.

Cool ...thanks for the tip!

Maybe I'll just go down the beach and see what others are doing/riding and if I can get out and fly the kite it'll be a bonus anyway!

Diz

Dizne,
Wind has started @ Sandgate early today ..... might be ok (ish) after all. If your bodydraggin there be aware of all the jellyfish. They wont kill ya but you will get pretty uncomfortable pretty quiclky .... A mate of mine has been there all week and tells me there are lots of them in the water at the moment.

Happy Days

Cheers MartyJ.

Yeah, I was down there floundering around with my board and kite and had a good session I reckon (for a beginner).

I face-planted quite a few times, but still reckon it was a productive session! I could get up and riding - no worries - but, had trouble pumping the kite for wind to stay moving and ended up sinking into the sand in knee-deep water.

Think I dislocated my second-biggest toe on my right foot too, but it doesn't hurt - just a bit purple. Not sure if I should try to slot it back into place - it's a bit tender when I move it. She'll be right tho!

Had a blast when I was able to get going, but I seemed to stall quickly. I need to practice where to put the kite once I'm riding, and maybe I'll hire a bigger board from Padi next time until I get the hang of it and then return to my flx 132?

There's some good crew down Sandgate way - cheers for the advice and help fellas! It made my first solo session (after lessons) less daunting and all the more enjoyable!

Cheers,
Diz
