Hey everyone, I've been wondering why there is such a difference in the readings between Ocean reef and Swanbourne - is the probe at Swanbourne sheltered? Is Rottnest stopping some of that wind...
That being said, I have traveled a few times all the way up there when readings are 18-20knots are its definitely not that much - more likely 14-15knots just like it was in cottesloe. Any ideas?

Will we be getting back the graphs for RPYC annex & South Freo. ?

Woodies readings seem to be off they show a lot of westerly wind when the other graphs are sou west.

Yes, each wind meter is not always in a 100% ideal location; some favour certain directions etc.. e.g. finding a location that has clear wind in 360 degrees, power, comm's, and free from vandalism.

The woodies one we're still working on - we may need a longer pole, as the buffet effect of the building it's on 'bends' the wind, but only in certain directions.

Re RPYC/South Freo - unlikely, they were installed for the Perth2011 sailing championships and it was great to have them while we could.

Chamo, the same observation has been made before. Ocean reef gives the best indicator for the Northern beaches. Rottnest is handy for predicting what might be coming over the horizon but generally reads high.

An onometer at, say, Lancelin would be useful but this suggestion has always been dissappointed/disapproved. The comparison with Ocean reef would be interesting to the interested....

Swanbourne always(for many years) appears to read much lower than actual conditions (I reckon approx 3-5kts). Probably needs calibrating or maybe is in a ****e place to be representative of the wind on the water.
