Ode to a Jet-Ski person

Jet-ski person, selfish fink.
May your silly jet-ski sink.
May you hit a pile of rocks,
Oh hoonish summer coastal pox

Noisy smoking dickhead fool,
On your loathsome leisure tool,
Give us all a jolly lark
And sink beside a hungry shark

Scream as in it’s fangs you go
Your last attention-seeking show
While on the beach we all join in
With “three cheers for the dorsal fin”

Michael Leunig

I hope you were only referring to the selfish and inconsiderate few who ride JetSki's and not to the rest of us who ride responsibly and find the Ski a useful means of transport to kiting locations that others can not get to.

Woohoo, i love our yammy fx160. We kick everyones butt when going to the pin = more kiting time. It's great for lessons. Super fast resuce craft, especially at the pin. Tow-in surfing when it's big!!!!
I used to hate them until i realized how useful they can be. Kicks butt over any boat we've eva owned.
I do howeva still dislike they people that smash around in flat water and waves for no reason other than pi***ng peolpe off.

Cheers Angie

At christmas, at Sandy point, a family with a jetski were doing the super fun jetski day thing.
ie: go fast that way, go fast this way. go fast past students body dragging, swimmers, other boats, sailboards, fishers etc. etc.

a sign on beach highlights a 10kt limit inland.

a ranger was manning the driveway so I thought the polite thing to do would be to point out that they should take care of speed limits as the ranger could nab em.

After the initial abusive outburst and declaration that " why doesn't everybody givem a fair go" and saying they were obeying the 10kt limit. I felt compelled to point out that they were supposed to be doing 5kts within 50m of other craft, etc. and within 200m of shore. also the far bank was only 150m away.
I also pointed out that they had the capacity to go to a large variety of other locations within Shallow inlet that would allow them to do what they were doing legally.

The result was more abuse and them packing up in a huff and leaving.

I wish more jetskiers were like the guy that rescued me at Pt danger. he helped 3 of us sailboarders that day had fun in the waves kept a respectful distance from all and certainly helped the jetski cause. He also said to me that rescueing the sailboarders was the most fun and adventure he had had on it. Go figure.

I was trying to remember the words last weekend. About 7 kiters in the river mouth which makes it pretty crowded and then 6 jet ski people decided to hoon around for about half an hour in the midst of us. Kn dangerous. Selfish finks. I know who was having more fun anyway

Yeah I'm with Michael too.
Had a ski, and everyone that rode it turned into a "jet ski person" at some time. Not saying all jet ski owners do, but there is something about themachine that overpowers and disengages many peoples brains.
Best thing I ever did was get a Zodiac, can rescue more than 1 kiter at a time, uses heaps less fuel, is quiet, no injuries getting in and out of it, etc.

Zodiacs are a good boat, plus if u mount a machine gun on the roof u become a navy seal. (I am refering to the fact that they are used as a navy boarding vessel not the fact that they should be used to shoot jetskiiers!)

Yes well its all well and good to lump everyone who is part of a group into that mould .I am sure there are people in the community who would write a similar poem with kiteboarder written into it.
I am sure that the three people rescued last year off Port Stephens by a guy on a jetski appreciated it (They would be dead otherwise ).The community did. The guy just received one of only 3 maratime bravery medals that have ever been awarded
(Please note I do not ride jetskis and yes I find them smelly and noisy and have noticed some riders on them doing really silly stuff )

I believe he is talking about those annoying jetskiers who risk our lives through dangerous riding, stupidity and lack of skill. Anyone can get on a jetski and ride on the water, it takes skill to kitesurf, surf, windsurf or skipper a boat through the bar. Its through aquiring that skill one learns to respect the water and fellow users, learning safety the hard way (by getting slammed). I doubt anyone here would get annoyed if Laird Hammilton was jetskiing near them, but if an arrogant fuxstick who doesnt know the rules of the waterways and puts my life and your life in danger you would be pissed off too. Unfortunatly a LOT of jetskiiers are in this catagory. We have inexperienced overconfident waterway users risking other peoples lives.

Its all well and good to preach the heroism of a jetskiier but I gaurantee you these inexperienced users have harmed more people through accidents then they have saved.

The fact that they are a noisy machine which disturbs everyone elses peace also bothers me. I doubt you will see an experienced jetski pilot annoying you or me by riding in the flat water on the river where there are kids and families but I gaurantee you will see the other 9/10ths of the INexperienced waterway users(usually the mates or family of the owner of the jetski) there.

I have never had a kite disturb my tranquility, and I bet ther 99.9% of the community would prefer to sit with thier family and watch a kitesurfer preform their art rather then a jetskiier buzzing around in circles.

Ode to kite surfer

Kite surfer kite surfer, bird nest tangles
Lines left on the beach in complicated angles
Laid out now for over an hour
For the average punter to trip and devour

Weave past the surfers and steal their wave
You’re a star in your own show
And this is how a star…
Behaves!

On shore winds you speed across
Along comes a gust, control all lost
Sweep that kite and take off a head
Like a jihad kiter born to be dead

With no leash attached
You Click the QR
And watch as your kite travels so far
Over the trees and into the lines
240 thousand volts, kite burnt in no time.

The show must continue
As you launch your biggest kite
Wind and you fighting
Two fierce opponents
Upon each others might

Now back in water
As you skid along
Overpowered but confident
What possibly could go wrong?

Jumping over the swimmers you throw smiles to the crowd
And as you come to shore its becoming quit load.
Shouting - ban kites from this beach, as you pack up your gear
And that was the last time we ever saw a kite down here…

not my best peice of work but i guess it gets to the point

all sports have dick heads, hoons, brats, braggers ect but to stereotype an activity on the actions of a few makes you a very arrogant/blind/stupid person.
when was the last time a bystander was scared of loosing their head from a chauvinistic jet skier.
when we (the family) used to walk up Leighton beach with the dog kites looked as though they were coming straight at us. since then i learnt to kite and dont find it "a scary experience" but im sure the rest of the people on the beach do.

Hi dude, you shouldn’t take all forum posts so personally or literal let alone throw venom and name calling at others on forums - its poor form and in the context of your posts contents somewhat hypocritical. Unless of course your bein sarcastic.......kitecrazy(with the extra zzz's)

although I like to make a point about kitting incidents as was the ones mentioned in the kitting ode and that is sometimes it just takes one of theses incidences from one normally responsible kiter (as opposed to dick heads, hoons, brats, braggers ect ) to cause council concern on a said beach to have it banned - which essentially is throwing all kitersurfers into the same basket.

You know what I think that kite ode should be printed on all new kites from next season to remind others of the safty, just in case you cant tell I am joking

i can take it as personally as i want cus its an underlying problem with kitesurfing-the guy who got lofted into power lines pretty much set us up to be banned.
btw, i dont like "hoon jet skiers" but the responsible ones dont deserve the blanket definition.

I recall an incident in Wellington NZ where a jet-ski was intimidating 2 people in a kayak... the guy got so cocky he ended up running over the poor chick and killed her!
I guess the biggest problem with jet-skis is the noise... if they were super quiet we probably wouldnt have an issue.... because as people have said they are a bloody good rescue craft and hve many positive attributes....

I only brought the subject back up because these guy's came right through the middle of a group of kiters repeatedly, bit of a bummer on the first good seabreeze of the season. Admittedly we kiters were playing on the flattest water and cleanest waves, but surely there are some rules regarding distance from other water users?
I'm sure the responsible jet ski user exists, but leunig totally summed up my feelings to these "noisy smoking dickhead fools".
Kiters can rescue jetski's too-
