It's soon to be Road Trip time again. Looking at going to Old Bar this summer to try something new.

What is the usual wind direction in summer and what is the Kiting like. Looking for Flat and waves and it looks like it fits the bill. Does the area behind the sand bar work on NE winds? What are the better camp sites in the area (close to the kite beach as well).

Cheers
Chris

Was looking at the Lanis on the Beach @ Old Bar. Is this close to the prefered kite spots? Any one ever stayed there?

Haven't kited there but I think there is a caravan park (near airstrip) at the begining of the road which leads to the flat water stuff.

Check it out on google earth, the air strip stand out

Yeah stayed there last year for 4 days, got no wind, was unlucky.
Summer is Northeasters that come up pretty consistent.
you have flat water then on the other side of the sand spit you have surf as you would have seen on google earth.
was spewing we got no wind,it looks pretty sweet.
You also have the lakes and surf of foster only half hour away.
Nice part of the world

I have kited there heaps - awesome spot. Was even considering going up there this weekend for the NE'ers. And yep, have stayed at Lani's a couple of times, it is a good spot and right near the bar itself (two min drive).

The other good thing is that even though it is such an awesome spot it tends not to get crowded - the kiteable area is huge so there is always plenty of room. And yes, you can head across to the beach which works well too.

Great spot to kite flat water and beach breaks/downwinders.
Try Namaste Beach House for accomodation, is Backpacker style and over the road from beach. (short walk down bush track)
On Weekends please be aware that the flat water area is silting up badly leaving not much room for kiters to pass (low tide hardly a pond) so please show curtesy to local kiters and the environment during your stay.

Thanks for the info guys. Looking forward to heading up there. Just need the time. If you look on Goggle earth she does look a little silted up.

Hey Monkey,

Why not hit some nice clean water and come down to Back Beach Black Head on Sunday for a 2 - 3 hour Downwinder with the a cool crew.

Check our number on the site and call for more info.

Cheers Glen

And neither as good as Back Beach Black Head. Got to be one of the best spots on the Coast for Kiting in NE to SW winds for wave riding.

Downwinder tommorrow.
