Trying to reset the stopper ball is very frustrating as it is far to tight and impossible to click back onto the sleeve. the only way that i can get it back on is to put the bar on the ground and wedge the ball between my feet and pull the line through which takes an incredible amount of pressure to acheive. This means i can't reset it while the kite is in the air... any sugestions???

Swap it the other way around. No bull

Once removed you will notice that the two halves of the internal bore are slightly different sizes. When in position, one half is quite tight allowing you to rest the bar against it - the down side it is quite tought to reset. The other half is easy to reset but allows the overide to activate quite easliy.

I've got a new SB, so I guess the stopper is at its tightest right now. I have no troubles resetting it by grabbing the depower setup in one hand, then yanking down the stopper with the other.
Try eating more wheaties for breakfast!!

Then it will drive you crazy because it slips so easily - oh well - cant win all the time.
Does any Bowman have self launching on the sand nailed.
Not the one where you slide your kite over every inch of shell infested sand - but a method that puts the kite in the air virtually from the place it is laying.
Would really appreciate help here gents.
Thanks - The Kiterider

Drift launch it. Just don't let the lines tangle on the depowerstrap. Works well.

Some Bow users swear by the this method.

DONT fold the wingtip, just sand it.

As you raise the kite for launch, walk to the side a little to get the kite to lean back a few degrees,to aid in tipping the sand off.

If you dont lean the kite, the sand gets trapped in the strut joint, and either makes the launch difficult or sprays sand over everyone as it launches !

I have seen this done and looked so easy, i dont know why many other bow users have tried this.

dig a hole in sand and part bury your board, as an anchor.

tie leash to foot strap and attach to chicken loop.

have bar in the fully let out position.

take kite to a position slightly downwind of a normal launching angle to wind and lay it down on back leading edge to wind.

it should sit there waiting for you to get back and hook up.

you then pull in bar and launch.

this works for the Takoon Nova but This method should be practised with a helper until you are fully confident.

Best winds

Launched my 12 m bowie in everything from 12knot lucky bay, to 25 knot geraldton downwind.yes it will drag a bit on the sand but how much is another issue. try walking from downwind to a little sideways, as you do this just apply a little pressure to the line furtherest away from you(eg black) to give a tiny bit of wind to the tip. Now the trick is to keep walking sideways varying the pressure on both lines so the kite continues to get more wind but not enough to move the kite. at a point the kite will want to move and at that moment all lines should be taught, a flick of the other lines(eg yellow) and the kite is airbourne straight away. takes a bit of practice but the kite will only drag 1-2m when sussed

How is lauching your kite of the beach any different from using the same technique as relaunch from the water Why complicate things by shovling sand and digging holes

Ok so lets say lines have been connected directly upwind and lets say your going to launch from the left of the kite pick the kite up and put it over the right hand side of the lines.

Point the left hand tip direct upwind and put just a little sand on the second panel to weight it down just a little like a handful, two, or three.

You put the kite over the lines like that because when you bring your lines to the side when launching they are free from under the kite.

In addition, when you point the kite into the wind the back tip should just have the wind in it so it is filling with air not so it is moving violently but just so it stands up.

Then hook into your bar and walk toward the left hand side of the window but upwind just a little of the side of the window.
This will allow you to launch the kit into a full neutral position.

Now this is what you do pull on the outside right hand line it will allow the right hand side of the kite to come around a little more and grab the wind. It will put the kite onto its side as the power of the wind pushes the right hand wing out lifting the leading edge from the ground

However, as you are slightly upwind it will leave the leading edge pointing ever so slightly toward the sand until you are comfortable.

You then just walk into the wind window even out the steering, where it will be tame and ready to launch.

I have tried all methods
This is the safest and easiest.
But if you don't want to do it this way then that's just fine by me

Rory, In the method you have described do I assume you do everything the same as when launching a " C " kite except that instead of folding wing tip over , you just place sand on the kite near trailing edge - what part please - the first section or after the second strut. Can this put any uneccesary strain on the material.
