Not quite so bad with the kite school now gone, but still pretty busy from what I hear. The windsurfing school is about to start up too, so there will be an abundance of poleys wobbling around the shallows from now on.
CALM have installed a line of markers as a guide for us to keep well away from the bird santuary on the point. They did this after first consulting WAKSA because they didn't want to just bann us. It's pretty important we cooperate and keep on the outside of this line.
This marker line also makes Pelican Point a bit more difficult for beginners too. But rather than just getting pushed up into the line of windsurfers some of us are kiting a lot further offshore. There's a lot of space out there and if anything goes wrong you are still going to be washed back to shore.
a great crowd but the markers have made it sh!t for beginners as they usually get in the way of everyone else, ride along the line and its pretty flat. plenty to euros down there at the moment so its quite social getting to know everyone. not crowded when its cranking but its still a lot of kites in one place.
most locals claim their own bit of water were they stack their tricks and the new faces take a couple seshs to work it out.
o ya, to all newbs thinking about comming down remember that this spot is under risk of being banned, launch from the beach, stay upwind of markers, the river bed is littered with crap to cut your feet open and the down wind shore is lined with trees and boulders. other than that the locals are friendly as long as you dont do stupid sh!t
yeah i wouldent recomend it, i kite there all the time coz i can ride my bike there after school, its not to crowded on weekdays but weekends its kn busy. its quite choppy and alot of the pollies seem to be coming downwind into kiters ways. the sand bank is absolutly covered in everything u can imagin, ive even riden over wat looks like a 4L paint can and my feet are always cut up from all the shells.the markers also make it alot harder when its more S-SE
so if uve got a car i would seriously recomend going somewhere else.
cheers, Leo
p.s those who cant stay upwind PLEASE go somewhere else of walk upwind often because it would be extremly anoying if kiters got band here.
still a magnet for kite loop to tree candidates :(
marker buoys arent really working, they are smack bang in the middle of the lane. should be moved ~20-30m closer, around there it gets plain to shallow anyway (and theres still a couple kite line lengths to the closest point
the weed has been great so far this season, very little of it, lots of bloody blowfish nibbling toes :(

You should have seen where they placed them initially, it was totally unworkable. We met with Calm when they first went in and got them moved a bit, but they didn't seem interested in moving them any further.
Their plan is to moniter usage and if the bouys are ingored they will only have one option.
its not peak season so to say that its not crowded is short sighted, lots of people will come in jan ect, last year we had low numbers until after jan btut hat could have been the ****ty weather b4 then
